yes overwatch has killed people. but what i meant with it is simply that overwatch's theme as a game is people fighting for the future they want. saying say doom should die cuz he wants a better future or what a better future in his eyes is in his view would be hypocritical to the themes

So im brand new to overwatch and I just learned the game has lore but I know nothing. Can some gimme a quick run down of the general lore of overwatch. I’m not asking for the specific life story of every hero just a summary

Omnica corp invented robot laborers, aka omnics. their top scientist made one that was fully conscious bc she was too ambitious. The omnics rose up in the Omnic Crisis. Each country fought the omnics using different tactics leading to all the different heroes in the game. Overwatch is created as an international force to fight the robots. They also founded blackwatch to pull off black ops away from the public eye. The one sentient omnic Aurora sacrificed herself to give all the omnics her sentience, so there's a race of sentient robots that are slowly dying off. Some of them form a religious group at Shambali monestary in order to meditate on the Iris, a god that they all can feel for some reason.

Overwatch, led by Soldier 76, was destroyed by Blackwatch and/or Reaper, which splintered away, eventually becoming Talon, "the bad guys". There's a period of peace.

"In-game time" starts when Winston, an overwatch veteran & sentient gorilla raised on the moon colony, calls for a recall of all existing overwatch agents in order to fight Talon & Null Sector, led by Ramattra, an omnic who believes that omnics should be fighting humans
