My issue with it is that it feels super divorced from what Quechua ayllukuna experience, especially in the present

I know overwatch takes place half a century in the future, but itā€™s very unfortunate to represent an indigenous group (one currently protesting against human rights abuses by the Peruvian state) and divorce them from indigenous reality.

It feels like if they wrote Illari as an inka warrior who got samurai jackā€™d into the 2070s, barely anything would change about her. Quechua culture existed long before the tawantinsuyu and has survived it even post-colonization to this day

To me I think her lore pays lip service to her Quechua identity to hype her up as an Inka. And to me that does have some problematic implications. Like, imagine walking up to an indigenous person and telling them theyā€™re in the shadow of their ancestors.

Quechua runakuna were lucky to preserve a LOT of their culture, and their survival is a testament to the power they have as indigenous people.

Andeans donā€™t really live in tribes, theyā€™re part of Pueblos or ayllu, the latter being the traditional form of community. Though Iā€™m not sure how much of her community was destroyed, I think it was probably enough to dash any hopes of any new children of the sun rising out of its ashes
