Just because a story is avoiding magic doesn't mean it has to adhere to the hardest of hard science

It is after all science fiction with heroes and stuff, if it ever wanted to bend things, adopt speculative concepts, and have it so you could "get lost in time"

They are well within their power to do so, what would it matter anyway if it wasn't "realistic". Its a story within its own universe, if it works and doesn't contradict world-building, what's bad about that?
