Sure but we'll rip it apart if it has faults
Head canon: Bob does something
omg wtf is that
do omnics need to eat something? or theyre just.. there
any1 with mic wanna play add me if u want or dm me: Topg#22641
any1?
did they turned off slow thing?
oh its not lfg
sorry
Who wanna play overwatch 2 unranked? for fun?
Go to LFG chats for that if u want a group
.
They dont eat
This is addressed in Stone By Stone
sigma solos
Why does dva and the rest of the meka team wear skin tight suits? Doesn't seem like it's necessary
They kind of fixed that with dvas ow2 skin
Shes wearing some armour now
He does fr
I think its just a design choice inspired by Evangelion
they also need to be able to quickly get in and out of the MEKAs without anything ripping or getting stuck
Gonna assume it’s for practical uses seeing as their pilots
Oh yeah like eva
For booty
I can see that
Please dont shitpost offtopic memes here
Wait is that off topic if it’s for overwatch
!!loreonly
This channel is for serious discussion strictly related to the lore of Overwatch. Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
100% ana and reinhart already did it that's my only contribution here
Whyd ana abandon her husband and kid
she had amnesia
and when she regained her memory, she figured it was better to just stay dead
Pharah wasn't really a kid at the time though - she was 26
I wonder if pharah ever told her dad ana was alive
they have an interaction about it
Oh they do?
Pharah: Isn't it time you told Sam that you're alive?
Ana: You let me worry about what your father needs to know.
who's pharah's dad again?
or something like that
bro just stop
ignore them
Oh okay cool
I can’t wait to see more of pharah in ow2 pve
She is so interesting but we don’t see much of her sadly
New blood was the first time we saw pharah in lore since 2017 right?
yep
Was there hints at other gods similar to Anubis or not? It’s one part of the lore I no little about
Anubis is the only one
Oh okay suppose that makes sense
Did you all see ramattras abilities?
They explain how they work which is pretty cool
thought there were other god ais that got locked up after anubis turned rogue
Unsure tbh
same
maybe like sigma's hypersphere in shape?
I heard people talking about his abilities getting revealed and naeri was just the first person I saw post it
Assuming it isn’t real then?
they're notorious for posting things without sources and even just making things up
it could be real, but there's no source
Id recommend deleting the image
Good idea
The anubis AI just a security program for the military installation there, it's not by definition a god
@peak escarp source?
Fareeha Amari dreamed of being part of Overwatch with her mother Ana, only to see it disbanded before she had the chance. She found success as “Pharah”, head of an elite security squad guarding the rogue AI that started the Omnic Crisis. But now that a new Overwatch has returned, Pharah's dreams are finally becoming a reality.
I don't remember reading anywhere implying that
Pharah's origin story on PlayOverwatch.com
Hmm
also the Portuguese dialogue on the Esperanca map mentions "Anubis's forces"
@peak escarp what's funny is on the Temple of Anubis map there's no evidence of a military installation whatsoever, must be underground or something
Oh sorry I'm pinging you again
My bad
read the comic "Mission Statement"
it wasn't destroyed
naruto solos the lore
Is there any mention of what ultimately happens to the AI
it was put back into quarantine by Pharah's team
Genji didnt get a cyborg body because he wanted to be stronger right?
Hes basically describing soujorn
Sojourn initially got cybernetics because she needed them to save her life, but she later opted in to better cybernetics
She's more machine now then woman, twisted and evil
not evil at all
Ik I'm quoting star wars smh
darth vader isnt it
He gets it
it's not a very fitting reference
has her powers been confirmed has being magic?
where?
Who's powers?
magic is just science we don't understand 😛
idk, magic in ow doesn't bother me much since we already have science that's undistinguishable from magic anyway
Kiriko herself says that her powers come from the fox spirit
in her origin trailer and the short
Hanzo and Genji's dragons are spirit dragons too
ok but that's not saying it's "magic"
Kiriko has an interesting lore story
It's magic
i'm just saying because the dragons have been explained as being hard light
source?
so why can't the fox be too?
the dragons being hard light was always just a fan theory
don't have one sorry, i've seen it stated in youtube videos, and i think here but not sure
oh, ok
you don't need to ping me for every reply
so as far as we know we might have alway had magic
Because the fox spirit is a type of Yokai
the former lead writer once said that the dragons are not magic
it seems that they don't consider "spirit" to be magic
The Kitsune spirit is basically a Yokai, or spirit straight out of Japanese folklore
so the fox spirit could be the same thing as them?
i never really liked the "dragons are hardlight" theory anyway
I'm curious about the nature of the dragon spirit that genji summons when he uses his Katana, does the summon it from within himself or does it reside within the blade
Same with Hanzo
if they're hardlight, they must be projected from somewhere i assume, if they really are spirits they might just appear out of nowhere
Seems plausible
the dragons arent hardlight. The spirits come from within the users that are possible honored or honoring the dragon spirits. As Hanzo stated, only Shimada can summon the dragons
if they were hardlight, that would mean anyone can summon then
them*
hope they aren't, that would be stupid, you could justify anything with hardlight
I agree with this, hardlight doesn't seem as good as an explanation
i've seen somewhere someone theorized that the tattoo's are what projects the hardlight that makes the dragons but meh
hardlight would ruin the statement that Hanzo said
again, really don't like that theory
doubt the Shimada crime family would work with Vishkar
As long as overwatch doesn’t have many more magic characters idm
it could mean only they know how to make them somehow, i mean in such a tecnologically advanced world what's the difference between a spirit and an AI?
I'm pretty sure the Shimadas say some kind of chant when they use their ults
Vishkar aren't the only makers of hard light
just need more explanation on how you summon the dragons as a shimada
Probably similar to how kiriko does it
magic
Kiriko does hand signs when she summons her fox spirit
plot twist: the whole world of overwatch is magic, they just say it's tecnology to seem smarter
only plausible reason that the dragons are hardlight is because they use a tool (arrow and sword) to summon them, then again, doubt its hardlight
From what I can tell the brothers don't do hand signs they simply recite something and summon their dragons
yeah they dont, we only see Genji do a hand sign but it isnt much like Kiriko’s
kiriko's eyes glow when she summons the fox, could also mean something
the handsight could be like in naruto, just a way to help channel the energy used? idk
no matter how you put it, it's weird if you assume it's tecnology
I agree this is a good question they should explore
guys i think sigma is a physics specialist
good theory
my mind is blown
just like his
fr
He's an astrophysicist
i think winston is a gorilla
hope we get more weak leaks for the PvE
I think Genji is a ninja
i think that genji is japanese
the one with Genji protecting Zen looks promising
I think Mercy is an angel
i wanna lick and smell her sweet sweaty foamy feet
you dont have lore regular
Well anyways kinda off topic guys
not strong at all
shes a gamer
she's a gamer, how in the hell is she so strong
gamer girl
havent you heard her
"Its a skill issue"
which means that
i also wanna lick her feet
well, strong enough to be added into the Overwatch team i guess
dude, did you see her fall in the cinematic, hitting the ocean like that after that explosion should probably kill her, not break a leg and an arm
@celest brook you need to touch grass
also considering that the defense matrix is actually her shooting down the projectiles what's her reaction speed
THE UNIVERSE IS SINGING FOR MEEEE
fairly fast if she is an esports champion
he can't, he runs the game on low to gain 3 fps
Rip
fast enough to shoot down bullets xD
she is just a normal human being with fairly good mechanic skill
but again, strong enough to be recruited into Overwatch
it nearly did kill her
not nearly enough aparently
Alot of ex professional gamers like dva were chosen by meka because they already had the reflexes and response times
D.Mon is stronger than D’Va? heard that somewhere. If so why wasnt she chosen to be recruited by Cassidy?
hey i'm not complaining, i just think baby d.va should be a bit stronger ingame, cause she clearly is not just the average girl
Poor dva
her boss said no, Overwatch showed up to help, then she changed her mind
she is just an average girl - one with military training and good reflexes, but still just an average 19-year-old woman
bullets should have a higher chance of killing her rather than falling into water, in most cases you get put in a coma
you're also forgetting the advanced medicine of the 2070s
yeah, surprised she didnt atleast become paralyzed for a bit
she almost died and was up and active a few days later
is the next comic the Sojourn one?
true, actually forgot their healing is just magic
their healing is just technology as she was hospitalized and worked on by regular public doctors
i know it's technology i mean how much they can do
i mean you have a robot healing you with a religious gold ball xD
Zen has canonically only been shown to help others, not medically though
only actual medics we know are Mercy, Bap, Brig, and maybe Ana
there's a lot of stuff in the game that doesn't work that way in the lore
not counting Moira as she is more of a chemist/scientist
Ana isn't a medic - she just shoots healing darts
in the short story Bastet Jack comments on how badly she stitched up his wound
ah, okay. Thats why I said “maybe” bc idk if I can count her as one since she just uses darts
that's so weird to me, i mean the series come from a game, and clearly i don't expect everything to be 100% equal but imagine if they decided to say "oh widow can't actually shoot"
if she didnt have her heart slowed down, she would be a worse shot than Ana
unless she didnt have it slowed in Ana origin cinematic
then again, Ana stated she couldnt take the life she needed to
wasn't ana the better shot there? i mean she states she hesitated, so i assume she would have taken the shot first
Ana: shoots healing darts, not good at field medicine
Baptiste: trained field medic, works in a medical clinic
Brigitte: knows first aid
Kiriko: spirit healing
Lucio: plays good tunes, can't actually heal wounds
Mercy: trained surgeon and field medic
Moira: ethically questionable geneticist
Zenyatta: former Shambali monk with some unknown kind of healing
One of those things is not like the other, one of those things just doesn’t belong
lucio
I was referring to Kiriko smh
i want all those ways of healing to be valid in lore

pls blizzard
Lucio is the only support hero who canonically cannot heal you
let lucio actually heal in lore xD
music lifts spirits = added speed and healing
💀
also just noticed Ramattra was at the end of Storm Rising
Thats where he was introduced
his music speeds up cell division, aka heals you but ages you more quickly 💀
lucio is actually slowly killing you
still mostly waiting on seeing what “side” Hanzo chooses
yeah, unless he decides to seek self-acceptance
how does hog make his healing breathers?
I dont know if those are real, same with Soldier’s healing pod
sad, in junkertown he even has the machine to fill them, i though he made them himself
i mean that's the implication, but clearly the lore doesn't work by the same logic
they're canisters of gas to treat his radiation poisoning
sigma 👍
Who is burnes?
I'm pretty sure solider's healing device just another variation of mercy's healing technology
Another application of it made against Mercy's wishes like ana's rifle shells
Burnes is an Overwatch agent mentioned in the voice lines who was so good at cards that she quit to play professionally
another throwaway name, like Emre Sarioglu
In other words another name without a face
Lore does it say where the technology solider uses to heal himself came from?
Is it what I suspect and it's another use of Mercy's technology
I'm kinda disappointed in Mercy's performance in ow2, she's kinda hard to use
Not that she was ever easy, but she's even harder now
It is Mercy's technology
It was in Ana's twitter teasers
I knew it lol
The sojourn Novel officially releases tomorrow correct?
it officially released October 11
and November 18
and November 8
I have my copy already
Looking for 5 people to try and see if junker queens achievement works on ps4
Wrong channel sry
Hes probably charging
And they call that sleeping
Thats my guess
Zenyatta is into bondage
I thought it had already released however I heard the novel is releasing tomorrow
Although that could just be worldwide maybe?
there have been several release dates given, and people have been getting their copies since October
the Kindle version comes out on the 18th
the Audible version came out on the 8th
It’s strange I’ve been hearing people say it releases tomorrow then? Then again a lot of people thought they only announced we wouldn’t be getting a hero in season3 today
A lot of really weird misinformation has been spread today
yeah
I wonder what the point is though all it does is confuse people in the community
Sorry kinda unrelated to lore Ik
the announcement tweet is from Thursday
I remember seeing it it’s just strange then why people thought it released November 15th
I need to read it soon but I’m just catching up on all the short stories
I’ve only read baptiste’s so far mauga is great
Have you not seen how toxic people are being?
I swear, all I hear are overpriced shop this and player on role that
People just gotta find anything they can to hate on a game for real
I don’t really wanna go into it because this is lore discussion but it just sucks how much misinformation has been spread over the past month by people who supposedly were trusted
Just kind of ashame to see the community get mislead
I mean… nah I can’t say anything. There’s fault on everyone’s part
this is why you only trust official sources
I agree 100%
lore is lored
you guys gotta update me on the sojourn novel’s additions to the lore btw/j
Sojourn novel was pretty good imo
Seeing the early days of the crisis in more detail was interesting
Got it on audiobook and the Sojourn voice actress is the narrator, thought she did a pretty good job.
Are Hammond and dva friends in some way
Not that I'm aware of, they are acquaintances at most
I think at some point they crossed paths
they haven't met
doomfist when he realizes that his entire belief system of “conflict makes us stronger” is nullified by talon just using conflict for their personal enrichment
i’m like 90% sure doomfist would try to take down most of talon given the correct opportunity
they straight up don’t follow his own beliefs
at least, take down the squishies
the regular humans who work under talon
doomfist wouldn’t be the type of person to steal from the poor for the sake of it
he did throw a Talon leader off a balcony
because he disagreed with Doomfist's direction
lmao
although i’d say that in the end
doomfist is a warmonger not for the sake of benefiting humanity alone
but because he just enjoys combat
that’s pretty obvious alone
Based
Personally I disagree with Doom's entire philosophy he uses to justify his actions, war doesn't make humanity stronger, it weakens and divides us
Yes when there's a common enemy people tend to band together, I think this is what doom has in mind, but when the fight is over what then?
Eventually old squabbles and divisions return
Personally I'm more like Zen, that living together in harmony and showing compassion is the only real way
we're not supposed to agree with Doomfist's ideology
humanity is stronger together than it is divided by conflict
Exactly
@peak escarp Personally I think the entire basis in doom's view is by starting a war people with similar interests will band together
But I think this is where the flaw in his whole view is, while this may make states or countries stronger, it does not make humanity stronger as a whole
Which according to him making humanity stronger is his ultimate goal
The only conclusion I can make is he is deluded and/or just a simple war monger
yeah pretty much
If Null sector gets strong enough, wouldn’t that make all the humans ban to together like during the last Omni-crisis? He’s making humanity stronger at the cost of Omnics.
That's the point, yes
oh dear overwatch lore gods, was roadhog ever a parent?
nope
alright thank you
I agree
Doomfist is a smart tactician guy
But then he thinks planting a tree in a volcano is how you get trees to become more stronger
which hero has your favorite lore
doomfist
for me i love the shimada lore
Torbjörn’s supposed to get a skill tree ability that turns his turrets into flamethrowers
@icy sage This channel isn't really the place for those
Is it true that magic isn't canon in the OW universe? Everything could be explained by science?
XD cause if so, I've been wanting an explanation on both Kiriko and the Shimada bros spirits
Yeah it’s confirmed spirits exists in ow
How does zenyatta float?
XDDD ahh
Something to do with the iris but we don’t know
Sigma has met with "the Iris"
Correct
sigma is literally insane you cannot put too much trust in anything he says
But he is smart
What is the iris?
Mercy, zenyatta, hanzo & genji, kiriko,
Mercy is explained in the lore as far as I'm aware
the same way that cars do, with tech
his healing is another matter

whats jq backstory?
Mercy aint magic she heals with medical technology
It was nano something i forgot
Yeah, mercys healing tech was explained in her novel
Thrown out of Junker town, lived in the wasteland for years, then came back and took down the junker king
Its what allows you to experience tranquility
L
If i remember correctly. Mercy despite her age during the time was the BIGGEST contributor to the Medical technology due to her making the First ever NanoBiotic Technology which healed wounds.
But zen is the only one who heals by magic, no one knows how he heals, even mercy herself asked the same question
she pioneered the nanobiotic technology in her mid 20s
So yeah she was really quite young for that kind of age imo
Actually Kiriko heals with what I would classify as magic
yes
has anyone else heard ana's voice line about a ghost in cairo she is dealing with
who is it refering to?
You have a whole novel of Sojourn lore if you want
I need more sigma lore
Yea
oh i would have loved a 3rd egyptain character lol
a tank
wed have egyptians across all roles
someone likes egypt
Maximilian as a tank?
not likely
It’d be interesting
It’s more interesting then him being like dps or support to me
I don't see Max being a hero at all
How come?
because he's a coward
It’d be interesting if he was like a Batman type he plays the role of timid
But in actuality he’s more than capable of folding you
he'd rather run, or make a bargain, than actually fight
guys
u know new hero
u cant jsut tell me that isnt david martinez from cyberpunk edgerunners in the cyberskeleton
search him up basically the same
Mmm
Only difference is ram isn’t a drink in a bar nobody goes to
Or a dlc jacket nobody wears
ok
go to his farm to find out
👍
We finally got news on Ramattra’s abilities. They sound like a good mix
At least for one of the big bads like him
Think what you will about them I suppose. But I’m curious to see these abilities in action in the story
I think that was leaked by a not so reliable source
I found it on Naeri X’s Twitter. Don’t know if it’s reliable as you say. But they did say it was revealed in Korea on the tweet
You're in the lore channel
Abilities are lore related. Because they are used by heroes as shown in the comics, shorts, and novels
I think it’s a thin line, but I do kind of lean towards TM on this one
but while we’re on the subject, that seems pretty interesting and fun
And disagreeing would be like saying Queen throwing her knife isn’t lore or that Genji’s dragon blade isn’t lore
So check mate
Good call.
we know pretty much all we need to know
because he isnt a lore focused character. Yes, I would like for the future comics to have him in them, but theres not much they can do as Talon is keeping him in hiding for something big
Is sombra evil?
Ik shes part of talon which is evil but she backstabbed them in the infiltration cinematic
And shes nice to sigma in their voice lines
Being nice and being evil aren't mutually exclusive
and she's definitely on the side of "bad guys"
she may not fully buy into their ideology but she still works for and supports them
she hacks omnics for fun I doubt she’s good
evil is kinda subjective
I’d say she’s just a bit devious
I’m not sure she actually has any malicious intent but she definitely has some mischief going on
What do you mean when you say evil?
is family guy canon in ow
no
aw man
Only in junker town
Monkey>>>>>>>Family Guy
rein doesnt have that much lore what makes the lore good is having rein in it tbh
One thing i dont get it in doomfist story
He got defeated by winston right?
Then why he is standing victoriously at the end of animated?
Like dramatic pose in the gauntlet part
cause it was his reveal trailer and he got free, so basically hype
Why cant it be, overwatch is our world but in the future
There is no proof to suggest that it doesnt exist in the overwatch universe
Imo the only difference in 2010s/2020s in the overwatch universe and our earth is that overwatch the game doesnt exist
Because he broke out of jail and got his fist back is my guess
Or its a trailer and it doesnt actually mean anything
Ooh
Doomfist must have some genetic enhancements since he was able to break through that wall just by punching it
he has a cybernetic arm
If his arm that wields the gauntlet was just a normal arm I’d feel sorry for him
EXACTLY these are the questions we should be asking
the terms “good” and “evil” are subjective to both the sides that are using them. Sombra is apart of the terrorist organization Talon. She works and supports for them by getting what she wants her way. Reaper and Widow both necessarily dont like her, but Doomfist is fine with it as long as he gets what he wants, which is a world ruled by fighting or something like that
Is the game connected to the real world?
what do you mean?
As in literally? No
Otherwise not sure what this means
i imagine they mean if their histories are the same up to certain point
Its supposed to be our world, 60 years in the future
Except for Japan. Japan has magic inexplicably
And their all ninjas
and apparently still have heavily feudal families
they have yakuza clans, not feudal families
Yeah it’s still pretty accurate to the normal world up until like 2010s maybe a bit before that?
It’s still weird to me how every Japanese hero so far is a ninja
Well yeah but it makes sense
Imagine lore
I never understood this complaint of why all 3 of the Japanese heroes are ninjas
That’s like being mad about junkrat Roadhog and Junkerqueen all being junkers
they're all connected to one family
Exactly
it would be weirder if they were all ninjas but completely unrelated
It makes sense for them to be junkers tho
There’s not much you can do with mad max inspired Australia
Well okay another example is that Ashe Bob and cassidy are all western themed and American
Im just saying there’s a reason all 3 Japanese heroes are ninjas
Traditions are in their roots
Soldier is American
Reaper is American
And they’re both connected because they’re soldiers. So what’s your point?
Actually, better idea. If not ninja, what else should Genji, Hanzo, and Kiriko supposed to be?
Bc two of them are brothers who come from a Yakuza family who lived by traditional ways
And one trained alongside them
the rest of Australia is normal though - we could get a hero from Sydney or Adelaide or Perth
Personally, I don’t see what the problem is
Genji and Hanzo were always meant to be ninja. Even back when they were just one character
A family of ninjas are all ninjas surprisingly
Kiriko being a ninja because she trained to be a ninja under her mom alongside the two brothers makes more sense then anything else
Bc what else could she have been? Japan is heavily known for only a few things when it comes to warriors
Samurai and ninja. And between the two, I guess ninja was just more sensible to use given they learn to adapt to survive
i mean use of bow was if anything more related to samurai
This
Hanzo should be a samurai
Not a ninja
So ninja can’t use bows why?
They literally use any and all weapons from their era
Then, realistically speaking, if Hanzo was a samurai, he’d have to be slower and less agile
Not to mention, samurai were more known to use bows on horseback rather than on foot
Btw hanzo and genji were originally one character so there wasn’t really any way of getting around them being… ninjas I guess? Which isn’t an issue anyway because they’re both cool asf
Hanzo has been alluded to have fought on horseback
Proof?
Alluded to isn’t proof
Wiki or OW page, there’s no mention of Hanzo or horse in the same context
I've never heard that
Especially since Hanzo trained with the sword before he took up the bow
He’d still fall under the samurai or ronin archetype
No he wouldn’t. His character from the start was always meant to be a ninja
Because that’s the kinda family traditions he came from
His design is Ronin esc
He uses a bow
I’m still failing to see the issue here
Ninja use weapons that are very concealable
genji = robot
The issue is at this point they’re just trying to come up with a reason why they think 3 ninja characters are weird
Come up with reasons?
My guy
May be onto something here I think
Their right in front of you
It’s double standard though
I’m not saying you can’t dislike the fact there’s 3 ninjas but how are you then gonna say 3 western heroes or 3 junkers are fine
So kiriko couldn’t easily be a shrine maiden?
The Australians are fine because well it’s mad max
Technically 4 junkers but I’m talking about Australian heroes specifically
And what would she do as a shrine maiden alone?
There’s not much to it
What she normally does
Okay the ninjas are fine because they’re ninjas
Throw seals
Every hero has to fight in game
That makes no sense when there are book loads of things they could be instead of ninjas tho
Like I said
Hanzo can easily be a samurai or ronin
Hence why she became a ninja with kunai
Shrine maidens did fight tho
Genji hanzo and kiriko all trained together the same way how would it make sense if they were all then completely different in how the fought?
This is why they all have a wall climb in game to tie their training together
A perfect way of translating a heroes lore to gameplay
Ninja and samurai usually were from the same cloth tho
Remember ninjas are just spy’s
Precisely
And no. Shrine maidens or Miko were never trained to fight
So wouldn’t make much sense for Kiriko in a game where she has to fight
And Hanzo’s design is to represent traditional ways
Opposite of Genji who’s design represents the new ways
robot vs human
And Kiriko, who trained with them, uses both ways. “Some of the old some of the new”
Ever heard of yamabushi?
Pretty sure they fought
Their a type of shrine based monks
Those are not shrine maidens though. Now are they?
yamabushi aren't shrine maidens
It’d still fit
Their pretty much the same thing tho
Their both just monks
not really
Your explanation is flawed
that's like saying a friar and a cardinal are the same thing
I’m almost afraid to ask this, but do you know about Japanese culture? They’re traditions and such?
As far as you’ll get from being in the south
Yeah
Okay, I’ll take that as a no then. Bc what you’re asking is for Hanzo, Genji, and Kiriko to live by their real world roles
Hanzo as a samurai. Genji as a ninja. And Kiriko as a shrine maiden
Two trained to fight while the only training the other got was how to dance mostly
okay wait is it fair to call hanzo a samurai
No. Bc his family was a ninja clan
He wears clothing similar to it
How you can get samurai outta that idk
He also doesn’t use the tools of a spy either
This is literally how they looked younger
Both dressed the same
Both trained the same
But both chose different lifestyles
i know hes a ninja but the obsession with honor but actually having no honor, the family name and the bow just make me think of that
yeah but he doesn’t really live by the samurai code 🤔 if anything he’d be a ronin, but of course that’s ignoring the fact that he was part of a crime family so just about as far from a samurai as you can get
I’ve said that
He just doesn’t fit the role of ninja
Except for the fact that he, Genji, and Kiriko all trained under Kiriko’s mom with a sword
Using a sword doesn’t make him a ninja
It does if that’s what he was trained to be
Ninja are just spy’s
They usually use concealed weapons
Or farm tools
Genji fits that
Kiriko does
Besides the seals
hanzo used stealth to dispatch the hashimoto
if anything kiriko is the least ninjai she just punched them lol
and, to zoom out, why are we holding these fictional magical ninjas to the same standards as actual shinobi
Ninja are assassins and spies. They trained in stealth. Which he uses. They trained to use any weapon. Which he does. Ninja can have honor too. Anyone can. Which he does
like they literally summon animal spirits to fight for them
yeah like samurai werent honorable people sometimes they just followed the bushido and were a social class
like if you read old japanese history samurai do a lot of plotting and backstabbing
their “code of honor” was also just doing the jobs that the people who payed them told them to do
it wasn’t intrinsically honorable or virtuous; just “do your job and honor the people who pay you”
“or else you should DIE”
yeah they were like knights, the ideal of the virtuos honorable warrior came after or was only present as fairy tale
samurai were more like mercenaries than knights
Yes, and there are some traditions Japan had towards women. Which gave birth to kunoichi female ninja. Which I think Kiriko represents
well they were payed with land by a noble but they were painfully easy to buy
Regardless, Hanzo is a ninja. He trained in the ninja ways bc that’s the kinda family and lifestyle he came from
So all you can do is accept it
i mean yeah he is
uhm tho a samurai heroe wouldnt be that weird, specially considered theres people that train as samurai in modern japan
that is true
well for one thing, the team has been talking about melee dps heroes every so often
because people keep asking them
i mean they dont have to be shimada lol
People keep asking, but when they do get one, the community finds problems to pick at
Such as they do with Doomfist and Genji right now
Slim build, looks like a ninja, uses a short blade(forgot the name) and throwing stars
Tantō, katana, shuriken
I think his sword is more likely an odachi
based on its size and the fact that he wears it on his back
i suck at weaponry names
then a daikatana at least
Mfw a damn ninja is running around with an Odachi
i mean genji trows his shurikens
Genji isn't considered a melee hero
“they usually use concealed weapons/farm tools”
his katana/odachi/whatever is not very concealed, plus shinobi didn’t actually use swords because they almost always costed a lot of money, which ninjas didn’t have
or a tantō
Not to mention the laws against having larger blades back then
true
Genji is a ninja
yes
Genji actually uses a wakizashi (short blade) and a katana
why? because we're told he's a ninja
Though, something to notice is that Genji’s swords were different
The sword he had younger was a straight blade while the one he has now is curved
I don’t think the blade he used when he was younger was a katana if it was straight
They uses farm tools n shit
Or well
Farm tools that were practical
improvised weapons
They also wore normal clothes
i do recall one ninja using archaic shotgun once in an ambush
Ninja did have weapons. One of which was a ninjato
yeah I’m aware that they used improvised weapons which were usually farm tools
but genji doesn’t
Your average Joe could’ve been a ninja
Which happens to be what young Genji uses actually
Genji is the western idea of a ninja
I feel like I got lost somewhere in this conversation so I’m just gonna see myself out
just like how Cassidy is the hollywood idea of a cowboy
the guy no joke set a hiding spot on the road and when his target passed by he two shotted him in the body and fled lmao
His main weapon(his throwing stars despite(if I remember correctly) not actually being used in combat are pretty concealable
One ninja was famous for being a sniper
Ninjas didn’t avoid guns btw
Or explosives
I just want some diversity with the Japanese characters
The junkers I get
i can picture them being very practical yeah
Hell there’s a whole ninja clan who specialize in gunpowder and explosives
I think we're getting away from Overwatch lore
Tru
ok good point
yeah and i should sleep anyways
this interaction in particular was with rein wasn't it?
it's with Ana
something like "what is happening in egypt ana... it sounds serious"
"i'm just putting some ghosts to rest"
"i trust you're doing the right thing..."
oh I haven't heard that one

it's one of her only voicelines where she hasn't sounded confident
neat
I love doomfists character so much
He isn't an edgy comically evil villain like most
He's conversational and has reasons for wanting to kill everyone
Love him so much better than reaper
He's even polite somewhat
Even if he's a little narcissistic
S still a villain obviously
Thats the point, he feels human, a persin who got too caught up with ends justify the needs
how long was genji with zenyatta again
everyday I wake up and thank the dev team for making Soldier gay
whats up with the interaction with zen and sigma about the iris?
sigma said theyve met
Can someone explain sigma's story to me?
A few years maybe? We don't really know, but it was probably arounf the swiss HQ explosion that he left and met Zen somewhere
Sigma could indeed have met the Iris - or it's just in his own mind
at what age did hanzo "kill" genji again?
Sigma was an astrophysicist - went to experiment on a blackhole in space - his body and mind got fractured for a brief moment and he was left with his fractured mind and antigravities anomaly surrounding him. they locked him somewhere, Talon got him out - now he is ok again but still a bit lost in his own world sometimes
we don't know for sure... Hanzo must have been around 26-28 and Genji 23-25 ?
i see
it was before Retribution ("8 years ago" since Recall)
and in Kiriko's letter - Asa said that the Hashimoto have been ruling for 12 years - and in Kiriko short story, around a "decade" ago
but we don't know if the letter and Yokai are set before the recall - or not ( i think asa's letter is the one most recent but.. not sure)
did anyone got the skins from overwatch league?
Is the iris like a physical entity or is it something else?
Symbolic I think
we don't know
Sigma seems to think it exists, wherther physically or just as a conscience
It's unclear for now.
Is Hanzo from Overwatch?
No
Or Talon
also no
Is Genji part of Overwatch?
Then why not Hanzo
because he didn't join..?
back when the old OW recruited Genji, Hanzo was still with the family
and when he left/Shimada were disbanded, he wasn't looking to join up with any organized force
because he felt like punishing himself for Genji's 'death'
and OW didn't reach out because he wasn't useful
Judging by his in-game interactions, if Talon were to reach out, he'd deny because he values independence
hanzo is just a dude trying to rebuild his path
Oh well that makes sense
lore based, who do you think is the strongest character?
in my opinion sigma, my dude literally controls gravity
sigma is pretty much god level at that point
What is moira's weapon?
those golden things
No, like what does it do to enemy?
Hanzo is like symmetra and the junkers,in between it all
1.sigma
2.doom fist(and probably Ram)
3.soldier and reaper
4.Reinhard,Winston
oh
idk maybe a poison
judging by cinematics seems like Genji is OP
- Sigma 2. Symmetra 3. Winston 4. Orisa 5. Ramattra/Doomfist
Symmetra’s only limitation is her imagination
Winston and Orisa have both beaten Doomfist in combat
Tbh I don’t think doomfist was taking the fight serious he just seems like the type that wouldn’t
Reaper and soldier are also pretty strong
If i remember right he is the one who pulled some strings so efi could get the funding to make orisa, it makes sense that he would only be testing her at first
He seems like the type that’d be using fights as a training
Can someone shed some light on the Shimada clan dragons? Are the dragons that we see Hanzo and Genji use spiritual, real, holograms, hard light?
They’re spirits
Just like kirikos fox spirit
What is their connection to the Shimadas?
Honestly the shimada dragons are a bit unclear as of now
To my knowledge blizzard have never really clarified what they are or their connection to the shimada
I see.
The only reason we’re certain their spirits is because of kiriko
We were having a little debate about the dragons in ow-serious, so I knew I could turn to the lore group for good intel
The devs used to explain them as hard-light I think, or that might have been the community? Either way, they havent been confirmed as spirits for long
well no matter what we all know that Genji's ass is the killer
he can nullify the power of gods with it
^ that
it was the community
Hello?
sup
bonjour ?
if i had to guess based on her voice lines and background as a geneticist it probably breaks opponents down on a cellular if not genetic level, then kinda siphons off the products to heal herself and her allies.
as for her orbs i have absolutely no idea
ive always thought of it as a kind of vacuum that sucks out like glucose/white blood cells/etc and whatnot out of the enemies and then transfers it to whoever she is healing
yee thats essentially what im saying, as for her fade, ult and ballz i havent the faintest idea
same wavelengths my good sir
regardless ive always loved her idea as a character, considered going into genetics so she was like
Maybe she did something on herself like with reaper so now she can fade too
perfect 😎
yee but exactly what she did idk
maybe she can break apart cellular matter and reform is as a principle, which is how she sucks out energy and gives it and how she fades around
I first thought that she stops heart with this thing
And forgot that she refills heals with it
so if moira can restore that stuff could she fix reaper
Purple ball hurt
Yellow ball heal
I think the purple ball tastes like grape
While the yellow one is pineapple juice
You think the PvE would also include Colossus battles, like the huge NS Robot in Zero Hour?
maybe
We saw a glimpse of the titan thing from Zero Hour in the reveal event. Idk the timestamp but it was in the Gothenburg mission apparently
nah that purple one is 100% prune juice
The mission appears to be on Gothenburg where the team has to activate the defense system Torbjörn built to stop the Titan and bring down the command ship
Sounds like it’ll be fun to play actually
I just like that it shows not all the missions will be the same
In Rio, they boarded the command ship to take out the core, but not before dealing with the Behemoth
I don’t remember how Cole’s team and the MEKA dealt with the command ship in Busan tho
Reaper isnt gay
Reaper is mexican and he is straight
can you show me proof that he isint straight
He wouldnt catch feels for someone he hated
he was best friends with soldier wdym
He had a wife before turning into reaper
he was obv cheating
like dude
they were best friends and even went to the same program
Soldier didnt care about relationships, as he left his old boyfriend for Overwatch
more proof
Reaper wouldnt have went to stalk his ex-wife if he didnt love her
Reaper is straight
hes bi
theres no proof leading to him being bi
I think that's enough of this convo going nowhere
no im being logical
my apologies,
i think you wrong
Reaper got super mad whenever Soldier took over overwatch and he got moved to blackwatch and it ended up with both of them "dead"... i dont think those feelings were love...
Stating things about the lore isn't homophobic
i think those were feelings of love
you may think whatever you want but it's not backed up by evidence
confirmed*
before Reaper and Soldier fell out they were battlefield friends
i believe that they are just unconfirmed fact
how do you know they didnt elope
It's never mentioned in any official lore
nor is there anything leading to it
therefore theres no proof of them not being sneaky wit it
Stop.
its a discussion
It's making shit up
beliefs can happen, but believing something that has 0 proof to back it up is just making up a rumor/hoax
its a discussion
Not anymore it isn't.
its offensive to assume a characters sexuality regardless of if theyre straight, bi, asexual, gay, etc
he has a confirmed ex wife, also confirming that he is primarily heterosexual. not to say he cant be bisexual, but it is offensive both for characters and people to be mis identified with their sexuality so maybe we should just accept that based off the only confirmed facts, hes straight
This is being stunlocked on a point that seemingly has no evidence from an outsider perspective
It's a discussion channel for actual lore, not baseless headcanons
we are disccusing with lore involved are we not?
i agree and cool name 😉
and the lore turns contrasts the headcannon
moving on
Magician, you go by any pronouns?
dont wanna say 1 pronoun without knowing you want the other one more
the big two are both fine
okay
So when they say the Shimada clan can control the dragons. What do they mean? Like, do the Shimada have magical powers?
I think its kinda the same principle. I think the dragons are spirits like Kiriko's foxes and that the shimada clan are reincarnations of the dragons. thus, each shimada can access the spirit of the dragon that they were in their past life
literally only speculation but I feel like that makes a lot of sense especially since the story of thenorth and south wind dragons line up so well with hanzo and genji's storyline
Originally it was speculated by the OW community that the dragons were some sort of hard light, but with the release of Kiriko lore it seems more likely that they are spirits.
But without further lore information it's all speculation.
As Ren.sua said
That actually makes a lot of sense
You should join the lore team
hahaha i like the storyline a lot and i read a nonrelated comic a while back ago that had a similar concept of like people who were descednents of dragons and could channel it and so in my head it kind of works the same way
that and im obsessed with the shimada boys lol
same
whats the comic called?
are the practice range robots omnics, if so, do they feel pain and are we torturing them?
subzero. its on webtoon !
oh cool thanks
all i know is that if you wave at them they stop and wave back so now i feel bad killing them lol
not that we know of since the only people who use omnics for war is Null Sector
and Talon ig, having Maximillan
the practice range bots arent really used for war tho
they’re used for training, so maybe I shouldve said “fighting” not war
yeah
1 thing I want the story developers to cover up is how the dragons are summoned. Because all we know are they need to be apart of the shimada family. Do they need a tool? Honor towards the dragon? a Pact?
the fox spirit tho, isnt it straight up magic?
yes, that is magic I think
but that can be used through practice
its not restricted towards a clan
yeah you just have to be "gifted" with the magic i think the word kiriko uses is
overwatch devs strictly sticking to the scifi theme just to add straight up magic in overwatch 2:
in the short film, when hanzo summons his dragon, it comes out of his tattoo
and genji's comes out of his sword
maybe it has to be like linked to a certain thing
fine by me. science make brain hurt, magic fun
yeah, but the magic ruins the universe and time line
very very true
but, we’ll learn more about Zenyatta in the PvE, so that can possibly help
i am so excited trust me
i was rewatching all the short films and listening to a lorecast the other day and there are so many holes in the storyline and i have so many questions
broo thats gonna be horrible
they are going to be charging us money for cosmetics AND the actual new part of the game?
they need to chill with these money grabs
is there a sigma cinematic?
unless its a 1 time pvE dlc purchase, which i can justify as like oh its like buying a new game
no, but there is a origin story
Peek inside the mind of an eccentric astrophysicist who hopes to unlock the secrets of the universe, unaware he’s been turning into a living weapon: Introducing Sigma.

sigma is really fire as a character, i cant wait to see more of him
hes probably the best designed character lore wise in the game
i also wonder how wrecking ball will fit into the lore of the game
right now hammond just kind of exists
existing is nice tho 🙂
i mean he was on that space station with winston
yeah both of those are true
but junkertown is just completely disconnected from the rest of the lore pretty much
but we may encounter him randomly at some point - he is suppose to be travelling the world right now
Junkers will most likely help Overwatch to take down Null Sector :P
not completely - it's built on the ruins of an omnium
His origin story is fricken wild.. I thought he’ll be a villain…but I see him more of an Anti-Hero
I wonder what will happen to the junker king?
its just a guy thats confused and being taken advantage of
he wants violence tho
he was cast out 10 years ago
so who knows
(Yes, JQ has been ruling fo a decade)
Lied to by talon using him as a tool
I wonder if hell come back for revenge
dead, probably
only real villain is Ramattra and Doomfist imo, maybe Reaper aswell. You can make arguments to make alot of the villains “anti”
reaper is just straight up evil
reaper just wants revenge against Overwatch
and also sometimes calls omnics "tin cans" in a voice line after killing one
Moira aswell
also is really mean to the push robot
