I don't think Reapers that sympathetic
he submitted to the changes willingly
it's his own fault for betraying the organization that he's the way he is
code of violence at least implies he didn't do what he did for selfish reasons like jealousy
more so him becoming disillusioned with Overwatch as a whole
Keep this chat to lore only ty
Wow
what are the chances he's actually a double agent and is long conning talon
i remember that being a prominent theory back in the day
I would be very surprised
mainly because we've had stories from his POV
and he has no real qualms with Talon nor a desire to turn on them
at most I could see him going rogue
imagine if ow had a singleplayer campaign that focused on the heroes' backstories
there used to be a rumor back in 2017 about the income from ow being used to fund a movie
I mean thats what they talked about for next year
have they said anything about the PVE being playable offline with bots?
did we know who Ana was before she became a playable character or did she just appear out of the blue?
can u add a kick/ban way to vc party leaders......! (asap)
the pve will probably have some kind of connection to universal account progression so this seems extremely unlikely
unless you mean just play it with one person in a group, which i guess might be possible but not what it's designed for
Oh Hammond
actually one of the funniest characters in the game
when he kills Genji with grapple or piledriver I think he goes He says, deflect that loser
Savage and funny. Not to mention the Dramatic highlight intro makes everything better.
Fire.
Also this ship is gonna be interspecies
ÿøkœßô
i would too if the person who found me was moira of all people
.
what exactly is overwatch? do they carry out missions to accomplish a certain objective like valorant agents protecting/stealing radianite or is it for entertainment like in the apex games or something completely different?
Varies depending on the hero
but if everyone has different motives why did they join under one organization that is overwatch
Well originally they were together but eventually it split up into two for example widow and reaper aren’t under the organisation anymore
Actually I don’t know if widow was to start with
I’ll check
afaik there was overwatch which was the face and blackwatch which was like the covert ops but they left overwatch and became talon which has the edgy people like widow, reaper, sombra, moira etc
Yeah thanks, but ye it depends what side they’re on but even then they all have individual reasons for joining
Blackwatch didn't become talon
Talon as an organization existed perpendicular to Overwatch and Blackwatch
God ima make some funky art just coz u said that now
lol
so the blackwatch members left for talon?
yes
Talon served Moiras interests better and Reaper became disillusioned with Overwatch as an organisation
Sombra was never a part of overwatch
Widow was brainwashed etc
ah
Not all of them tho
i see
Genji and Cass/Cree came back to overwatch
How many overwatch agents did talon kill?
How many talon agents has overwatch killed?
If only we could get a peek at Reaper’s kill list.
Didn't he have a wife?
wait reaper has a son??
Yes it was revealed in Code of violence
i kinda wanna see the movie about the founding of overwatch that soldier talks about sometimes
how tall is junker queen?
around 7 feet
I honestly thing this image is kind of hilarious
even though in context this is pretty tragic
limitless meme potential
we know they killed Gerard
Widowmakers Husband
me vs the dude she tells me not to worry about
and in one of the comics we see a whole bunch of coffins for dead agents
now whether or not Talon played a part in their deaths isn't clear iirc
Are the que times part of the lore?
Is Tracer both dead and alive at same time?
Lore says she keeps disappearing for months
lol obviously not
shes basically a living time-ghost if that make sense. time doesnt affect her.
So where does she go when she disappears?
idk im not that into the lore, but i know some stuff
The best example to pin down what’s up with Tracer is to compare her to Ghost from MCU
At least that’s the fastest way to give an example
Or maybe just say quantum physics
Longest way to explain it that she’s physically moving through space-time uncontrollably until Winston invented a way to anchor down to their time, but gave the ability to jump forwards or backwards in her own time
Think of Hit from Dragon Ball Super since I can’t think of anyone else with a similar power
I didn’t even know the game had a lore
Baps lore is lame
widow maker bad asf
Im down bad for widowmaker 😮💨
!!loreonly
This channel is for serious discussion strictly related to the lore of Overwatch. Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
What exactly happened to Sigma?
Experiments with artifical black holes gone wrong and somehow entangled his consciousness into space time fabric? Is it related to how Tracer got entangled into time?
It would be cool if they had a voiceline referencing each other considering no one else can sympathize with their conditions
Black hole gone wrong gives an old man Psychosis
Apparently Sombra goes through something similar to Tracer when she teleports, judging by their interaction
Though she obviously hasn't been lost
what did moira do to widow? and like when did this stuff happen
We don't know if it's Moira
But what happened to Widow was two stages
First was her conditioning, which made her follow Talon's orders, including killing her husband
Then after she did and went back to Talon she had her pulse slowed down to make her a better sniper, which turned her blue
She killed her husband about seven to eight years before Recall, so the first was around then
Then somewhere between six and seven before was the second
apparently a snipers own heartbeat and throw off their aim?
talk about dedicated to the job
We don't have exact dates, but the timeline goes
Retribution (8 years prior)
Widow is conditioned but not yet blue, kills Gerard
Uprising (7 years prior)
Widow is blue, "kills" Ana
Storm Rising (6 years prior)
Supposedly yeah
It's a relatively common trope with the "calm, cold assassin" characters
awww its cute
its such a heartfelt story
also yeah overwatch has very much expanded into a state of supernatural
meh

Man kiriko has to be my favourite ow character now
that scene where her wound inexplicably gets healed.....what
What's the lore on sojourns big massive juicy thighs
Support passive
don't care for the short but
I do like the return of the one yakuza guy from the Dragons short
if Kiriko becomes a major character in the games story it'll just...break everything
I do think the constant subtitles like its kicking time kinda killed the vibe
what are the limits of her healing exactly-
turn subtitles off then
no I meant the big ones
like there is a part where a font legit covers the middle of a screen when she gets erious
it does seem the extend of her powers is bring back people from fatal life threatning injuries
which brings me back to this
No
👬
So when a character is dying it'll just be Kiriko, just use your paper thing and save him
I'm pretty sure mercy is still considered the best healer canonically
I mean
I don't see how that's any different than what ANY healer is capable of lol
any support hero can save someone that's dying
kiriko doesn't break anything
that's kinda their job
also that animated short was TIGHT
well, aside from the ones who can't heal
are we good to talk about spoilers on that?
like Brigitte or Lucio
that is true
and as I said it'll only be a real issue if Kiriko becomes a major character in the story
she may not
||ok anyway, yeah it was great but I'm disappointed we didn't see the fox spirit||
good cinematic. the lines were a bit cringey, and the kid scream was...something but all in all solid short.
in a vaccum the short is fine
but the broader implications make me go 🤨
||also was the "I'm gonna call for backup" guy the same dude that runs into the bell in the dragons short?||
this character just got SHOT
don't worry Kiriko has her ofuda they'll be fiiiine
also iirc no
that's the guy who got the phone shot out of his hand?
that's
the same guy lol
it's been awhile since i've seen the dragons short
idk if they soft confirmed magic with the fox spirit in her origin story they just fucking hard confirmed it
true
and I have a problem with it there to is Mercy or Ana, or ANY support could do that
goodbye to any stakes
seems like a lot of boundaries are off the table for what the OW world can do
I mean that's also assuming the shot was fatal anyway
and lets be real
considering what it's implied Hanzo did to Genji during their fight that led to his extensive cybernetics
if they could save him
a gunshot wound is probably childs play for most heroes
he got shot somewhere in his abdominal reigon from what I can tell
right
most people survive those kinds of wounds with modern medical help anyway
I imagine biotics can't heal a shot to the heart or brain
I also imagine he wasn't just fine afterwards anyway
the biotics probably just stopped the bleeding
he'd still have to go to a hospital to get the bullet removed unless it just went straight through
this is all true yeah
my bottomline is it destroys stakes or any narritive weight a "character death" could have, unless they get blown off the face of the earth and their shadow is burned into the ground
I mean yeah that's probably what it's gonna take to kill some of these people
like
soldier 76 dying to a simple gunshot wound would be lame lets be real
and like
be honest
do stakes really matter in a hero shooter where it's VERY unlikely anyone's gonna be killed off?
It's at high risk of becoming "the Technology/Magic=Plot Convience" which is super lame
unimportant side characters sure
but any of the playable heroes?
nah
I'm sure there'll be instances of injuries too grave for even biotics to save
rings true for side characters or heroes
which I don't find implausible
PvP already does kind of exist in it's own Canon anyway
I'd be very surprised if they killed off any of the playable heroes in the narrative
that would be super weird honestly
They wont
Also, he cant
Soldier 76 has enhanced cellular regeneration
Strong enough to counteract Reaper's necrotic armaments
do we know how much punishment he can take canonically
He can also take a grenade at point blank
like if a squad of men peppered him with bullets would he survive that
or is it like
he can take more direct hits than the average person
plus the biotic field
you can see the hole through his shirt
despite what movies and TV like to make you believe, being shot in the chest isn't an instakill
That short didn't make much sense but it sure was entertaining
It does sorta if you read between the lines. Kiriko left her mother to devote herself more to the public and helping the fox spirit, the janitors son is in debt, she fights them off and sorts things out with her previously skeptic mother
I loved it
I loved the music during the battle, hope I can find it or they release it
I wonder what's the source of Kiriko's abilities? Hard light like most others? or is japanese mythology just canon to the OW universe now?
Its magic
I'm fine with technology giving plot convenience cause most of the stuff can be explained through hard light technology. And it makes sense most of the time as long as you can answer how the person got ahold of hard light tech
does anyone know who voiced Yoshida? i swear i recognize his VA
No
the voice acting was really good
I'm fine with only kiriko, hanzo and Genji being somewhat related to spirits
Spirit fox, spirit dragons, it's all cool
Genji and Hanzo's dragons can be explained with hard light since they have a lot of similar attributes. And it makes sense how they got a hold of hard light considering they're both from a wealthy crime family, and Genji has been a part of both Blackwatch and Overwatch
It was previously speculated to be hard light
If you really stretched hard light tech, it could explain how Kiriko can heal wounds. but idk how someone like her would have gotten access to such technology
Its now most likely just
Magic
Kiriko is not hard light
They've said its magic in her introduction, her bio, in her origin short, in this short, just talking about it 3 hours ago
Its magic
yeah it's better to just say that Kiriko is a magician
she has god on her side
Don't fuck with her, she has god and anime on her side
the music is this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3cI0LIMRcw

"perhaps magic, is simply science we do not yet understand"
Also, seems her mother doesn't believe on the fox or something?
yeah her mother thinks it's just a story
like she is eskeptic about that
First Disney's Turning Red and now Kiriko cinematic. I think asian people are just blessed by spirits
when are we white people going to get magical powers
I think we can handle magic as long as it's rarely used and it's perceived as a myth by the public
Spirits are a huge part of asian cultures
If anything i believe they're on the spiritual side, like Zen stuff
Spirits are a huge part of every culture
next character should be a guy named jesus who just has god on his side
Also it does seem like they've exclusively used spirits for the japenese characters
And potentially Zenyatta
Who is capable of a form of healing Mercy doesn't understand
they should add a native american character who can use the power of the spooky wendigo to curse their opponents
I thought zen orbs were just that zen gives people a peace of mind
I do like Kiriko as a character and in-game
Hope she gets added into Competetive soon
hey what kiriko means when he asks reinhardt if hes the loud one?
I guess cause Reinhardt laughs a lot and generally shouts loudly
ye but then she says ,, so youre not the loud one..."'
Could be wrong and there could be some super hidden lore detail in it
he has some other form of healing that Mercy doesn't understand
She's being sarcastic on that line
oh nvm im dumb lol
nanites
magic
magic nanites?
Is Kiriko's hair blue-green or green-blue?
what is this excerpt from?
from Valkyrie
looks more green than blue
I find kinda funny in the cinematic looks like very green and in-game is a shade of green and black
as of now I wonder how much of his humanity Reyes has managed to retain since code of violence
I wonder if he still has those internal monologues and contemplates the lives he takes
or if he just doesn't care anymore
Dva was right, Reaper has become cringe.
Is she wearing the same pants here as with the skin of her in a jacket in the shop?
Yes
I kinda think at this point Kiriko doesn’t use magic. It’s just tech we haven’t seen yet until now. It looks vaguely similar to Mercy’s and Lúcio’s own tech actually
doubt there an answer for this yet, but what were Kiriko's mother's ties to the shimada clan? Kiriko seems to be on the hero side of the spectrum, and she never brings up her mother's possible affiliation with a notorious gang.
She seems a bit colder to hanzo in the voice lines, but open with genji, which makes sense
it doesn't look anything like Lucio's tech
and it only looks like Mercy's tech because gold = healing
I was referring to the field of affect thing, but unlike Lúcio in lore, her’s actually does something. Which is similar to Mercy’s boost ability, though we’ve yet to see that either. Though, I don’t know what the limit is aside from looking like it takes a certain amount of time to set up
it's magic
I said similar to their tech. I’m sure there are countless other ways people use tech in medical science
the characters believe it's magic
After all, Ana very well should’ve died when Widowmaker shot her. She was only really saved by the grace of her eye and whatever medical science saved her
she was saved because the bullet didn't actually hit her
it hit her scope, and the scope shattered and hit her eye
at the top
"bullet hit rifle pt holding to eye"
I’m still saying medical science saved her, because if someone hadn’t saved her, she could’ve died. Either from blood loss or infection. Whichever is faster
what does any of that have to do with Kiriko's magic?
I’m saying we don’t know about ALL science in Overwatch
Kiriko could be using tech we’re just now seeing for the first time
Something we haven’t gotten since Sombra was first introduced
it's not tech
We’ve seen multiple characters using teleportation, create energy/holographic constructs with uses to them. Seeing an actual ult in use is rare, but we have seen that before too. I’d say magic is a stretch after seeing that cinematic
she literally says it's magic
also we've seen most of the ults in action in the lore
can some1 tell me why all my hero are locked, ive been playing for 2 days now and this has not been an issue
Kiriko says it’s magic, but I think she’s just being whimsical. We get a few characters who act like that
And I meant rare to see ult lately
Aaron Keller said it was magic
Kiriko said it was magic
Kiriko's mom said it was magic
The bio said it was magic
Its fucking magic
for ults we've seen Baptiste, Bastion (old), Cassidy, D.Va, Doomfist, Genji, Hanzo, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Lucio, Mercy, Orisa (old), Pharah, Reaper, Reinhardt, Soldier, Tracer, Widowmaker, Winston and Zarya
I say magic can be explained by any science or tech
It cant
The new writers evidently dont care about the old world building
Its magic.
Anubis is responsible for the crisis
And the timeline is a mess
That’s on the new writers then
They don’t know anything about the lore and now they’re going to fuck it up all around from this point on
the new writers are the ones making the lore now
Bet you they’re going to make more social statements using the lore
so they can change things if they want
Instead of actually building a world
such as?
Idk
I meant what social statements have they made?
Make the Omnic crisis a metaphor for rising above capitalist suppressors or something idk
London Calling is a good example of a social statement being done poorly
But that entire comic was blundered to all hell
you're just trying to cause trouble
No I’m not
I’m just a pessimist worried about the quality of the lore with new writers
I honestly don’t know what they’re talking about. I was saying the new writers are gonna just throw the world that built so far out the window and screw up the lore
you sound a lot like a climate change denier right now
not you
Oh
Ryu
Then disregard that
whether they "screw up" the lore or not, that's the new lore
Sorry if I prefer keeping a world that was unique from turing into another overused trope
Ngl it kind of already is
I don't have a problem with Kiriko/Genji/Hanzo/Zenyatta's powers being explained with spirit
Calling it magic is just an excuse for lazy writing and lack of imagination
Mfw I want another spirit Omnic to act as an antithesis to Zenyatta
Religious nanites
the "hard light" explanation we've been clinging to was a reach at best
It could literally be any kind of new tech. Nobody said anything about all science and tech in Overwatch having to be the same

and relied entirely on the idea that the dragons aren't magic
My explanation is that these spirits are projections of the chi of the being in question. How that happens idk, maybe tech maybe magic
It relied entirely on the idea that the dragons arent magic, which we were xplicitly told
By the original writers
Doesnt matter
so it's either a retcon, or a misunderstanding
Since this got buried by the magic conversation
Asa, Kiriko's mother, was a swordmaster, teaching Genji and Hanzo how to fight
Shimada were a gang, but an honorable one, caring about the community
Not the "good guys" exactly but not full-on bastards either
Unlike the Hashimoto who came after them
Could I ask a help thing here? I know it’s not the right place but the other chats are way too active for my message to be seen
Neither one is good. Because now most of the lore sounds like it’s changing without explanation
Me who is still hung up on Kiriko wanting to move in with her mom
If its not related to lore, no.
after declaring war on a yakuza gang
one thing changing doesn't mean everything will
it's not like we haven't had retcons before
like
does Kiriko t realize she is putting her mom right in the crossfire
even if Kiriko is confident she could handle them that's still an unneeded risk
That McCree name change though was easy to deal with in lore though
possibly, but her mom is a capable fighter
I'm not talking about that
Mei's old bio said that she was discovered frozen in Ecopoint Antarctica, but then in Rise and Shine we find out she woke up alone and saved herself
since her reveal, D.Va was said to be a Starcraft pro until the head writer said that she actually wasn't
Reinhardt's old bio said that the omnic crisis started more than 30 years ago, yet every other source says it started 30 years ago or less
Heck. I still say it’s tech, because it’s not like we have an explanation for the abilities of every hero. Example is Baptiste. Do we actually know how he heals himself or throws out his window?
Genji def stronger than Kiriko
the entire First Strike comic got retconned out of existence
I think First Strike was just flat out cancelled before it was released though. I don’t remember
it was
It's not really retcon if it was never released in the first place
but the art was finished and it was going to be released
Honestly, I think Kiriko does realize she's putting her mother in the middle of the cross fire, but her mother is also a capable fighter. As we've seen, she knows how to wield a sword / katana (or any other type of sword related item). (Also is it just me or does the whole "sword" part of the family not play for Kiriko? Kunai are not swords. They're knifes. More specifically throwing knifes.)
They still a blade though, Genji throws shurikens which are basically throwing knifes and he also uses a sword
also also all the people in that apartment building
including old dude and his grand-daughter
Wasnt shimada family oppose ninja shuriken thing genji does?
I thought its like 'not proper martial arts' kind of statement
Ah
So its just genjis fault then
Shimada clan don’t even know Genji alive other than Hanzo
Shimada clan doesn't exist
Shimada clan- never mind Party said it for me.
Hanzo left after killing Genji and the rest were shut down by Overwatch
Are you talking about the game or the team?
The team
ha
E- 🙃
I mean
Overwatch in a way IS gone, the game
Overwatch 1 that is

Funny how 2 head boys from Shimada go on to use a bow and throw shurikens and Kuriko just doing her own thing with Fox and Kunai
Shimada family fr a joke
yeah honestly I'm fine with the dragons being magic
Well, lorewise Genji's main weapon is the sword
He has the shurikens in-game for gameplay reasons
Blizzard really said magic exists but only for japan
Ong makes them the strongest characters if they can use magic
eh
Their magic still can only do certain things
Doesn't mean they can just do whatever
Some of the tech in OW universe is stronger
Kuriko seems pretty broken in the lore and Genji already we know is broken. Still lost to Doomfist tho, doom just built dif ig
Yep like Symmetra's
Is Kiriko a new character?
...yes
I've never heard of him/her
Yes
Kiriko is the new Support character.
They gotta explain the whole magic fox/dragon thing that right there is a plot hole
Her. It's a girl.
Magic is magic so it doesn’t need to much of a explanation but at least a well made origin
vaugely defined magic systems almost never end well
They might have left that for fans to try and come up with theories. It doesn't always have to have a plot.
Thank you, I always though the shimada's were more of a ruthless, cartel like gang but thats good to know
whats the hashimoto gang?
just some gang
though I think they are a pretty powerful yakuza group
that took over the Shimada's got dispanded and filled that power vaccum
were those the people in suits in the hanzo and genji cinematic or was that still shimada
those were the Hashimoto
we know that for sure because one of those gang members is also seen in the Kiriko cinematic
ohh ok

Yeah
The magic is annoying but its not the source of that. It just reinforces it.
I still dont like Kiriko as a character
It was pretty average overall
Bitly version of that link Doctor Six posted: https://bit.ly/3VoOAab
Yeah that's done already
Kiriko just doesn't feel like a character that naturally fits into the world
and it's more than just, the magic
but just her general lore
I also dont care for her personality in general
Its another case where the personality in the short does not match the personality in game
In the short she was kinda childish
yeah her uh
Starts a Gang War
Aight imma head out
rubbed me the wrong way
In game she's kind of a passive aggressive prick
Okay, well that could work for a design,
but with Kiriko it doesn't quite hit the mark, in my opinion at least
the problem could just be that the short was a little too cliché, nothing really stood out
She feels more like a Paladins character
Actually yeah, she’s just a street version of Io from Paladins
Not really. She really isn't a street version of lo.

I see it now
Kiriko looks nothing like Io
I heard a line in game that made me cringe earlier, it was Mercy calling Pharah her “Flying Knight in Shining Armor”
Don’t give those weirdos ammo to use Blizz
Weirdos? 👁️ 👄 👁️ Are you talking about the queers of Overwatch?
They're talking about Pharmercy shippers.
OH- I was about to say... we're not weird
Isn't there a bunch of flirty voice lines between Mercy and Pharah tho?
No.
nah
there's more flirting between Genji and Mercy
That would make sense
the only Pharah mercy interaction I remember pre overwatch 2 is Mercy saying Ana would be proud of Pharah and Pharah just went "lolmao, good joke"
I remember that one. I giggled way to hard.
What?
Pharah exhibiting some...motherless behavior
Inb4 we get a voice line of just McCassidy saying to a man “nice co-“
Genji and Mercy have flirting in Storm Rising, and they are the only heroes to have Valentines Day interactions
Among other things
Hot take: romance between playable characters in lore is always awful
Almost always yeah.
Also is it just me or why does Junkrat seem to always get the good action? Cassidy and Mei. Literally, When he comments on Mei's clothing she tells him "Look somewhere else." Why? Just why?
And don’t tell me they’re hinting at something between Dva and Lucio with that DJ Dva spray
He is dirty and insane.
They're fans of each other.
That's all.
gonna need some elaboration
They've never met.
Look no further than Apex and the shitty Love Triangle plot
I know nothing about Apex
Good
Spare yourself from learning of the love triangle
I'm morbidly curious
All you need to know is that half of the characters are queer and there is apparently a love triangle that I never knew about until now.
It involves a bi, lesbian and a soldier. As well as a grumpy Century old Assassin robot
okay that's kinda funny
Man they did Revenant dirty in that game. He was originally an actual threat but now he’s a Saturday morning cartoon villain who always gets the short end of the stick
I'm still waiting for more Cassidy lore. I wanna dig deep into that mans old depression. Rip it part from part like a chicken.
seasonal rot is a bitch
even happened to Overwatch
Eh, his voicelines with Loba are funny.
Only bonus points he gets from me are the fact that Darin de Paul voices him
Genji: Thank you, Angela. Perhaps you could share them with me?
Genji (on Hanamura): Angela, I have some chocolates for you. ...Not Swiss.
Mercy: *sigh* I suppose it will have to do. Thank you, Genji.```
But no seriously, I want more lore to Ashe, Cassidy, and Tracer. Like- (And yes I take this seriously) what really happened between Ashe and Cass... as for Tracer, I just want to see more of the british lovebug ❤️
“I got you some chocolates”
“Ayo you sharing?”
Bruh, she got them for you
~~think it was right around when Cass stole her bike ~~
these are Valentines voice lines
He wants to share with her, bruh Genji why you say it weird?
he's trying to be coy
he's a cyborg doing his best give him a break
35
Holy shit he’s older than I thought
I'm sorry- that man is 35?
Blizzard's art style makes everyone look younger
That does not line up at all with that og photo of the Overwatch team ngl
Mercy was like 18 in it and Pharah was a child
Therefore Genji was 15?
Anyone else notice something familiar in Kiriko? Mr. Pompadour returned 😂
and yet again, his first instinct is to call for help
Why tf did I immediately think Lupin iii when I saw him?
Genji was 15 and not a cyborg yet
Reinhardt is 61? Gah dang- Man is old- wait.. Born in 2015- yo if I was in the Overwatch universe I'd be in my 70's or 80's.
honestly makes him the smartest of the bunch I think
How old is Sigma?
62
he knows their all gonna get their ass beat
so naturally you'll want some backup
Sigma is 62
reinhardt grew up with modern memes
think on that
It’s understandable why he’s cowardly. His boss is a crazy psycho
imagine Reinhardt saying shit like "ZAT VAS POGGERS!"
Overwatch is set around 60 years in the future from now
we don't know the exact year
I’d be 80 💀
most "old" characters in Overwatch would definitely understand the memes of our time
that is uncanny to think about
RIGHT?!?
Soldier running around calling people “Based” and “Cringe”
which is funny because DVA says shit like that too
Speaking of Soldier, I saw his Soldier 1776 skin, I want it
We don't really know how old Echo is..
ALSO WAIT
you mean to fucking tell me 60 years in the future starcraft still has an esports scene?
Microsoft money be a Hell of a thing
retro games will always be popular
for esports?!
maybe Starcraft gets a revival and new versions come out
they could be on StarCraft 10
If it’s anything like Warcraft 3’s remaster
in 60 years current internet slang and vernacular never went out of style
Okay, my theory was, if we take the eldest character from Overwatch and do the math correctly then we can figure out the year.. but uh... how does that work when Echo's birth is classified?
How old is Doomfist?
and OW fell how many years ago at the time of the game?
45
Man looks good for being 45
Everyone looks good for their age in Overwatch
And many more are well endowed
Soldier 76 was born in 2021.

only in the rear
Then that means she's not the eldest character
is it weird that I kinda prefer JQs characterization in her animated short?
that's how it is for
most heroes in the game
That means Reinhardt is the eldest character (61) So if he was in our world, Reinhardt would be, solidly by now, 7 years old.
I mean most heroes characterization is consistent with how they're presented in their shorts
Nope, I prefer it too
As well as her design in that
Sigma is the eldest
they made her too bogan imo
wait really?
One year older
sO he's a 2014 baby.
She sounds too unga bunga in game ngl
Doomfist in lore: wants to start a war that could and will get countless innocents killed or uprooted from their homes and livelyhoods destroyed all for the sake of "humanitys progress"
Doomfist in the game: Hot cocoa?...fine, i'll have some
Wow okay my brain hurts.
If you know what I mean
To his point, how could humanity survive the next major threat to themselves if they don’t learn to adapt and evolve fast enough?
and we can't forget the zinger and dey say- and dey sey- and dey say chilvary is dead.
So Sigma would be 8.
In their world, he's 62.
Therefore... it's at least 2074 or 2075 for them.
I mean
she's the leader of a group of fantasy-racist violent hicks living in an exploded husk of a factory in the middle of nowhere
why wouldn't she be bogan
no you're right
we don't know what year Overwatch is set in, therefore we don't know what year any of the heroes were born
THEN HOW DO WE KNOW THEIR AGES?
What countries don’t we have reps from yet? And by countries I usually mean major named ones
we know their ages
just not the year they were born
The ages used to be in their bios
their ages used to be listed on their bio pages
His philosophy isn't particularly coherent if you dig down
but generally his take is that peace makes you complacent
So all that math I did was for nothing?
I’d still side with it over Overwatch ngl
I mean
It's fantasy-fascist vs fantasy-neocon
Doomfists plan kinda fails to take into account that war is more likely to set us back more than it helps
I wouldn't side with either tbh
oh shit it's new vegas all over again
It’s the Skyrim Civil War all over again
ever hear a pretty little idea "Mutually Assured Destruction"
So all we know is their ages and heights. Not birth years..
skyrim civil war is more like imperialist vs nationalist
Imperialist with a dash of foreign Imperialist
Can’t forget the Aldmeri Dominion
If they didn’t exist pretty sure Imperials and Stormcloaks would be good chums ngl
I mean yea I'm talking about the aldmer ultimately since they're in charge
Who would voice Mauga when he gets added?
Honestly Doomfists plan reminds me alot of Senator Armstrong
What nationality is he anyways?
Yeah, and both had some truth to them in the end
we also don't know the ages for Sojourn, Junker Queen or Kiriko, since the new bios don't list ages
Nigerian
what about him
I mean... Kiriko is at least 18+. (I say this because she has her own apartment)
To voice Mauga
oh you were talking about Mauga
Yeah
Mauga's name is Samoan, so that's probably his nationality
six, has the lore said yet how old kiriko is
Doomfist is Nigerian
Jason Momoa
nope, only that she joined the Yokai gang at 20
I kid, maybe the guy who voiced Gibraltar in Apex?
also he looks pretty damn samoan
so she's at least 20 years old
~~gotta get the rock in there to voice Mauga ~~
👍 thanks
Gibraltar and his VA are Samoan too
it's "terry crews should voice doomfist" all over again
only at least this time it would work because the Rock is Polynesian
the majority of heroes are voiced by someone who either shares their hero's nationality or ethnicity or both
DPS doomfist screaming about power as he zoomed around the map with get quaked on rollouts sounds utterly hilarious
only a handful are just Americans
Don't remind me of the Terry crews incident 😭
Branscombe Richmond
It wouldn't for many other reasons, but at least he's polynesian
also according to what you left behind
apparently Talon heavy assaults come with shields?
or
Maugas armor does at least
He’s the voice of Gibraltar from Apex Legends, if you haven’t heard give him a listen and see if that could fit Mauga
I feel like that voice would be a good fit ngl
Mauga got blown up by Baptiste at the end of What You Left Behind, so it's unlikely that he'll have the same kit as he did before
imagine dealing with that during retribution
god they're gonna have some AMAZING interactions
yup
but I want mah damn dual minigun big boi smh
I need more tanks to play not even lying

I hope the ow campaign is great
Baptiste had an interaction in OW1 that referenced Mauga
We’re getting one tank in 2023, it could most likely be him
he also has a Mauga spray
I would like mauga to come in season 2
Sombra: Eager to see you again. Be careful.```
oh yeah I think it would be cool if
assuming Bap gets a PVE mission against Talon
if he kills a heavy assault he says something like "THAT YOU MAUGA?"
Sounds op
The CyberSamoan sounds metal ngl
sounds a bit impractical
EVEN BETTER
I could see Mauga basically functioning like reinhardt with more range
you charge to close distance and shred up close with your machine guns
Idek what his ultimate would be
I could see his charge being more like a quick dash akin to what the Doomslayer has in Doom Eternal
overcharging his guns maybe?
Obviously merge the mini guns into one big gun
No watch him have like a uni beam like iron man or some shit
A Cyberized Mauga after the explosion with new mechanical arms that turn into guns with an under barrel each
Some form of defensive buff
And a high power ultimate
He has big ass noob tubes too or some shit
Tbf, means he wouldn’t have an escape
True
Mhhm
With them tho you get to see their kind of slow movement and allows for some reaction imo
A Quick dash sounds better than it
AND I love it
Also undebarrel noob tube?
You’re thinking too small
Underbarrel dual flame throwers
Now that’s the spicy shit
BRO WE NEED A FLAMETHROWER CHARACTER IN YHIS GAME RN
I'm surprised we don't already have one tbh
I think Mei was originally a chem based hero
A dude in a hazmat suit who most likely would’ve used a chem sprayer
A character with biochemical weapons sounds like a Moira concept not even lying
Also if you don't mind me asking what is your pfp?
Baguettes
You see it used to be a dude with a fish mask drinking a sodey but I got cursed by a French man
Wdym got by French man
kiriko doing ninja signs gave me naruto vibes
that kid in the kiriko animated short is SO cute i want to cry
cant beat goku tho
fax she was adorable, i also liked how they incorporated sign language into it, love it when narratives show things like that
the kid one shots
helllll NAW, goku solos the whole overwatch verse
😭😭
|| NOOOO not the old man ||
|| YASSS HE SURVIVED ||
yeah LOL
W for old man surviving
based grandpa
^^^
wtf this shit made me cry
the cinematic made me wanna buy the battle pass just for kiriko😂
they mid diff goku
delusion
😂😂
Whats the lore for overwatch 2?
Factual
W kid
😂😂
they should've explained more in her origin story, how she became the fox spirit
cause the magic is a bit extra for me when it comes to overwatch
like it's mythological in the same sense as hanzo and genji, but it feels less natural
I feel like all the magical stuff should 100% be better explained after 3 characters that actively use it
4 if you include zen
I do feel like the dragons can be put down as a bloodline thing and maybe the same for kiriko but I don’t think we have anything about zen other then “he simply loves robot god”
Wdym finesse the technology
like the tech is so good it seems like magic
I think his ult is more then just technology
Lamp just seems like it’s in the same grey area as rez, it’s simply just a thing they can do, but even zen says that he just believes in the iris a lot
we have tech that's used by several heroes and isn't explained
yeah I guess I feel with Zen since he's pure machine a lot of the technology can be included within him that we see from those like bap and mercy
even his personality is technically a program
Really? I think him and other robots like him are just intelligent enough to not have to rely on a program for all their thinking (I know there’s a word for it I just can’t rennet it)
Like at first maybe they had a program but maybe they’ve abandoned it in some way. like bastion 100% wasn’t like that in the omnic crisis
yeah true that's definitely a way to look at it too
I was thinking on the lines of i robot
but even then I still feel zen is intelligent enough to build something that can do what mercy and bap can
like if he wasn't a machine at all and he executed his ult the same way, I'd think 100% magic.. but its just cause he's technology itself that I'm on the fence
I wish we knew literally anything about the iris instead of like 2-3 things that don’t even tell much
That would make zens lore as a whole easier to understand
yeah and sadly I dont think they'll come back to it
Blizzard has to stop releasing hero’s faster then they can develop lore for the current ones
It’s kinda annoying when we get a new character with a bunch of lore when there are launch characters that have half the amount
I am happy that kiriko brought some genji and hanzo lore
yeah my issue is with these new characters lore having nothing to do with the actual Overwatch
like at what point do they even get involved
I can’t complain about that much cause there have been characters with 0 relation to overwatch in the game since launch, half of the launch roster at least had no relation
But at this point it doesn’t make sense to not release more overwatch or talon related characters
dva, zen(other then genji), hanzo, Lucio, and that’s it since my rat brain thought it was more but that’s still a good handful
Also pharah didn’t have any relation to overwatch until ana released I think
Oh and sym
yeah I think dva was like a regional overwatch or something i dont remember
genji def was overwatch.. lucio i think was later. Hanzo though, they dropped the ball there I'd say
i dont really remember what they had on pharah and sym.. wasn't sym part of a tech company
Who said she wasn’t
bap is former talon turned overwatch
sigma is a talon pawn
echo was developed by an overwatch ally
echo and bap I kenw.. not sigma
Yeah hanzo 100% could’ve been a new member and it would’ve devolved his relationship with his brother
the newer characters all have connections
sure kiriko and queen don't but they have connections to other characters
who are we assuming kiriko has relations with?
e.g. genji and the junkers
genji and hanzo
she literally trained with them as children
We are talking about overwatch relations specifically, like og members and members who she been mentioned but not in the game
where was that mentioned?
oh i must've forgot lmao
Yeah her mom trained both of them
The three of them*
Not very significant but still some nice lore
that makes me a bit more disappointed in the new short then
it just didn't connect with them at all in a sense back to overwatch
hanzo's connected through genji
hers felt like it doesn't involve overwatch
yeah it doesn't
Those three have unresolved storys so I wouldn’t say so soon
that's the point though
I just don't want a zero hour short and she shows up and we have no idea how she got involved
Kiriko could join thru genji and so can hanzo, but the brothers still would have the unresolved storyline of hanzo forgiving himself
there's a reason why zero hour exists though
Wdym??
Literally 6 backfill games in a row, first one without we have 4 leavers
i dont mean specifically zero hour
Fun
because the people there actually do have connections to overwatch
but I mean a short where everyone comes together
oh
like echo made sense
So far everyone but the junkers really have a connection to overwatch in some way
And sym
But she worked with moira if that counts
yeah that counts imo
the point of characters like symmetra and JQ (not the whole point but one of) isn't to connect to overwatch
it's to build a world
Sym barely builds the world imo, I get junker queen tho
yeah there may be a few too many junkers as three's a crowd
yeah her story doesn't relate to anything really
Her story just buffs hogs and rats but that’s it
but if you don't mention symmetra then you won't have Lucio antagonizing her
And they aren’t even related to overwatch other then the ana interactions
TRUE
sym doesn't have to relate to anything
More Lucio voice lines makes season 1-2 sym worth it
Lucio happens to be related to overwatch now
lol yeah those are great
Surprisingly
he's like post recall I think
but that has nothing to do with why he resents symmetra or the vishkar corporation
They let the funny music man into the group for entertainment
wasn't it her tech that effected his country or something?
it very much was
I think the interactions in that case is "good" from a humor perspective
but still not sure her involvement in OW tbh
Interactions aren’t enough to build the world tbh
nahh i dont think so either
Unless the say something about the characters past then it’s usually something that doesn’t really add to the lore
of the launch heroes, Bastion, D.Va, Hanzo, Junkrat, Lucio, Pharah, Roadhog, Symmetra, Zarya and Zenyatta had no connection to Overwatch
yeah they're not enough but it's better than nothing
see: pve mode in 2023
the game Overwatch has a lot of non-Overwatch characters
because
that's simply how the world works
Bastion has a loose tie to overwatch thru torb
if everyone worked at the grocery store, there'd be no one making the food, or however a saying there goes
launch bastion does not though
because prior to OW 2 bastion had not yet met torb
yeah but when pvp comes out there might be some people excluded
technically OW 1 bastion would just be like him waking up in the last bastion
There’s a comic where they meet that was released around 2017
Where torb was sent to kill bastion but he finds out that bastions just a little dude who chills out and likes birds
wait that was that long ago
yeesh
Yeah I know
what the heck blizzard
it’s crazy
But that’s why bastion is so different in ow2, he’s had time to be improved by the goat torb
alright point standing though
I have no idea what goes on in the other hemisphere of the world
to me, other countries do their own thing and I do mine
Is bastion a omnic? However it’s spelled
Idk actually
that's how overwatch should appear to a large majority of the world
He was designed by torb but he fought for the omnics in eichenwald
so is he one?
Yea sure
because torb designed all of the onnics
Can’t qualify him as anything else tbh
Torb fr started the entirety of the overwatch lore like a chad
He’s like the zen Of omnics, a changed robot
They need to touch on that more
I want a mini comic where torb looks at his programming to understand why he isn’t a murder bot like the other bastion models
I don’t thinks she counts
Omnics are made by that factory thing that’s run by an AI (idk the name)
But she’s like Orisa, made by a human
Orisa is an omnic though
yes
Imagine that this is all a dream in one of their heads....
i’m new to all of this lore is there like any place i can go read about the lore or a video that explains it ?

this video summarizes it pretty quickly - you can look into more of the lore sources if you want more details
(I consulted on this video so it's well researched)
thank you 😔🙏🏽
I would link Hammeh's video since it's better, but he took it down to adjust some things
Bro In Ana’s origin story their is a guy in bottom left in the team photo
Who is that ?
What do you guys think of making OW into a movie, as opposed to just shorts?
Yes
or a show 🤷🏽♂️
I’m of the opposite opinion. Even if it’s not as much of a bomb as WOW, I think most players would be disappointed. As excellently as the team makes the shorts, an 8-minute feature is much less difficult to do well than a 120-minute film.
That could work better. I can see 22- or 30-minute episodes working.
Confusion has struck me like a bottle of hot sauce. Was looking through lore… Tracer has been confirmed as gay, right? So… WHY AM I FINDING STUFF ON CASSIDY BEING BI AND SOLDIER 76 BEING GAY???? Did I miss something?
Soldier’s been revealed to be gay for a long time, no? Let me see if I can find the tweet; I think Michael Chu (the former lore director or whatever the title) confirmed it back in 2018 or 2019.
Masculine homosexual representation
How in the hell am I just finding out that Soldier 76, the man I have kinned since I was 12, is gay. But what about Cole Cassidy?
“Kinned”? Don’t think I get this lingo.
didnt he have a short story revealing he is gay and an event with his ex bf as a spray
nothing has been said about cassidy's sexuality
cassidy is just pure fan speculation
Wrong choose of words my bad. I meant favored
kinned is a fine word
I would love to see an overwatch show/anime to show the backstory of the game
who knows after the success of arcane maybe they will get green lights to do it
Hopefully if they do it right it could be one of the best video game shows made
Zarya is totally a butch lesbian, right? Like that’s just staring us in the face.
Bro i hate moira’s design but im good w her… im conflited
code of violence is great
feels a bit overdue but i'm really glad we got some insight into the character
what you left behind is still my favourite though
what is reapers orgin story? cuz im pretty sure soldier had something to do with it
Baps story is awesome too
i really hope to see mauga in the game soon
we don't know yet
Kinning basically means you relate to a character
Ah, got it.
I understand your opinion. I want an Overwatch show like Arcane
I TOOK THE WOOOOOOOOOK TO POLAND
why do kiriko's interactions portray her as a child
like she can't be more than like 7 years younger than genji
even if she isn't
that's a difference of 7 years
surely you've at least met a pair of people with a similar age differential
relative to genji she still sort of is a child
According to Genji's (old) bio, if Kiriko is in her early 20's - they have at least 14-16 age gap ahah
because she is! She is a young adult and they didn't care of the previous established lore
They didn't do the mistake with the JunkerQueen : her short is about 10 years before her ingame model and how she looks NOW that she has been Queen for that long and is older and has experience
you are telling me that genji is 10+ years older than her
YUP
bro looks 10
they really fucked this one up
I really think they did
but keep faith! They removed the ages on the biographies so they can mask their mistakes and just retcon things
(i'm still bit bitter, i'm in the anger stage of mourning the previous lore)
well, if magic and spirit world is a thing now, you can have new threaths and people wanting to create some techh to control it, easy
it just looks like they're throwing around timeskips without any regard for how they actually work
they don't have a lore historian for Overwatch, and it shows
when Chu left - (and Chu did mess up things at time and pointed it out / like they cancelled first Strike that would have been full of inconsistancies) - I feel like he was the only thing that prevented this kind of timeline messed up and chronology disparancies is gone
because it sure fucking looks like they needed more time
