I made a table of all the cultures of base game and 9 DLC expansions with respective affinities in an xy-grid, and I'd at some point that we can have at least one culture/subculture for every possible affinity combination.
also, I noticed that the base game cultures have been getting reworked to have some subclasses; currently that would be Dark, Feudal, and Mystic. for the classes that hadn't been reworked yet (Barbarian, High, and Industrious), I'm curious as to what kinds of subcultures that could be created.
I get that this post would be broad, but I thought to get ideas of future cultures that we haven't got affinity combinations of yet; base game cultures that haven't been reworked yet needn't fulfil the empty slots yet but thought might as well talk about it as well.

This was posted some time ago as a document, I believe, earlier in development.
Out of those I'm personally most curious about a Mercantile and an Artificer culture (the latter could be a not so war focused subculture of Reavers).
I think we should at some point get a cult culture since I can think of many people would have various roleplay aspects. I had the idea before the dark rework but I think rather than a subculture for the barbarian rework, it should be a new culture; that way it can have subcultures based on general belief/practice. I do think that for the Barbarian rework, its base affinity is Chaos, but it's potential subculture affinities be in, aside from Nature (tribal), Astral (shaman) or Chaos (anarchy); Reaver is basically Barbarian tangent, a Order/Chaos mix wouldn't quite fit the Barbarian aesthetic, and shadow is more deception and Barbarian is more forward tactics (if any at all).
For Industrious and High, I'm drawing blanks for their reworks since High's your atypical lord of the rings elf civ (grace and elegance) and Industrious your atypical lord of the rings dwarf civ (solid and sturdy).
For Barbarians I like the idea of having Blight/Nature (hill tribes?), Fire/Chaos (waaargh!) and Frost/Shadow (vikings) as subcultures.
For High I am a strong proponent of the idea of a sun (Order/Order), stars (Order/Astral) and moon (Order/Shadow) subculture.
I think you can have Oathsworn-Strife fill the Viking group if you overlook oriental aesthetics, but I do like where you were thinking of. Viking could work with shadow via frost, but since the devs seem to choose affinity's theme more than it's element, I'm not sure if they'd go Viking (especially if they don't focus on maritime content). your waaargh! is kind of what I imagined for what I said as anarchy so I think that's something we might agree on. I think for a broad naming scheme, they'd have the nature subculture be Tribal or the like, but the name will probably have to differ from Primal a bit more.
your Sun, Star, and Moon might work for High, but since I thought Dark would get Cult as a subculture I'm not quite sure the direction they'd go with that one. I do like your idea for High subcultures since I do think it's a harder culture to split up into.
Dark has two cults as subcultures.
oh, you're right; I only initially saw Death and Tyranny, but I didn't see the cult bit until after you brought that up.
Materium Shadow would be a natural pick for a rogue like faction
Order shadow would be great for a kinda theocracy but this stuff is handled via tomes
I could see Shadow / Chaos as a sort of Aztec / SEA / Bronze Age fertile crescent kinda bloodthirsty backwards empire faction
I just realized that if we used DnD's alignment chart, AoW4's affinities would probably go like this: Order is LG, Chaos is CE, Nature is CG, Shadow is LE, Materium and Astral being the odd ones out since they're Physical vs. Magical. so Order/Nature would be NG and Chaos/Shadow would be NE. if these are the case, what if for an expansion we get two cultures (or one where the subculture dictates Order/Nature or Chaos/Shadow) for a true Good vs. Evil that reworks and improves on the Alignment system. it's abit of a long shot but I figure, what if we get effectively "Beyond Good and Evil" (pun intended) that go passed the extremes of angel and demon.
I can't really say I agree on the Good end of that spectrum, because we already have plenty there. I feel Oath of Harmony, Oath of Righteousness and good aligned High together cover Good cultures enough.
At the evil end of the spectrum there is at least some space for expansion I feel. I don't know if it has to be an entire culture though. After the Dark rework was announced I suggested an additional Dark subculture in the way of a Shadow/Chaos Cult of Destruction: #1433527717290311801 message
Cult of Destruction would be a nice Dark subculture for demons or demon worshippers
This thread did make me realise, have we gotten no DLC shadow or astral cultures beyond the universal subcultures of primal and architects?
To be fair, we only got 1 order culture (Oathsworn), 1,5 chaos cultures (nomads and reavers), 1 nature culture (primal) and 0,5 materium cultures (reavers). But you're right.
I do wonder what another Astral or Shadow culture would look like that is different enough from both Mystic and Dark.
I once had the thought that a culture that represents the truly alien cultures of Syrons and Shadow Demons might be interesting and that fits these affinities. But cultures should be generic enough to fit a variety of forms, tomes and the like and I'm not sure if such a culture would work in that regard.
Yeah I'm more noticing that they don't have any really specific to them, like nomads are chaos and either chaos or materium, while the only options for shadow and astral are primal and architects (which have an option for every affinity)
dark too for shadow
I don't know why but for some reason Materium/Shadow made me think of a refrigerator and Materium/Chaos made me think of a heater.
