#More buildings in City fights.

I love my AOW 4 but city fights are Lacking in terms of feeling like a city fight.

All there is is a wall, towers, and a background of a city that would be ready fun to fight in.

*Picutes listed of AOW4 and Planetfall

I propose adding some form of buildings to the map or on the left and right sides with a road in the middle.
It would add more strategic thinking to fights and be more fun.

To start with, the map can be identical, but variation based on upgrades and city state would be pleasant.

If anyone disagrees with this, I'd like to hear the reasoning.

The map is empty in fights and as you are in the middle of a province, the heart of a city, it shouldn't be that way. There should be Life(Or death) that showed an active city (not just in the background.

I will Elaborate!

Having buildings Especially towards the walls will give more incentive to shock units and skirmish units and less of a shield wall line focus like most maps have.

Blocking holes in the wall and in the streets and forcing pocket fighting where you only have 2-4 units fighting effectively in an ally or between buildings allows the defenders to pushforward slightly and have a fighting retreat, and stop the targeting of the towers right at the start.

Buildings and destruction mechanisms mixing together give both sides ways to make it feel like the fighting is more destructive, and units that can walk through/destroy them have a much bigger feeling of impact and importance.

Side Note: The maps we have are great (In terms of events/Infestation and wonders) but the maps outside of type (desert forest swamp) lack any real styles that force a change in thinking, just wide open maps.

I'd think adding bigger blocks or more hindrances would makes map more fun.

River maps with a 3 wide bridge being more common, mountin maps that force a unit split or give a huge mountin in the middle, maps with canyons you can't cross in some parts that gives arches an advantage ect ect.

There's a mod that adds unique structures like garrisons and buffs to support structures, something like that alongside subtle map tweaks would give defenders way more tools than they have now.

Oddly it feels like fighting in your city vs out of it is generally not that different without heavy investment into defenses. Even then it's the armies you have on hand that decide the battle rather the the support structures they have, plus invaders can destroy SPI's and support structures with razing or siege projects. At least other games like Total Warhammer and Planetfall gave you some extra units to make fighting on home turf a bit more attractive.

To add on to the first part the structures can be usually avoided or killed with a summon quite fast, and attackers get towers as well

Agreed, would be neat, Siege maps are kinda samey

#

Additionally varying them up based on culture would be great

Agreed. Each culture really needs their own unique defensive Siege structure that looks and feels unique. Additionally, I think if you choose to attack an army adjacent to your city that it should use the city siege map.

The tactical AI really struggles if there's too much obstruction. Until that's improved, I don't expect maps to be made much less open

Happy new year. Note: I did not actually want to wish you happy new year, it was all a clever ruse to bump this thread.
