Forms
Of course, people need to have a form. And those forms can change with "Augmentations" and "Ascensions" which are similar to minor and major transformations. Augmentations might be something subtle, while Ascensions are more overt. Using Cybernetics as an example, an Augment might be subdermal armor implants or an enhanced immune system. An Ascension would be something like a full-body cyborg conversion (ala Adam Smasher or Briareos from Appleseed.)

Some basic forms might be...

Terran: Humans, mostly harmless.

LoGrav: Descendants from low-gravity worlds. Tall, thin, fey humanoids similar to the Syndicate from Planetfall 1

Insectile: For the swarm! Humanoid insects ala the Kir'ko

HiGrav: Creatures hailing from a high-gravity world, short, squat, and muscular. Beard optional.

Sauroid: Reptilian aliens. May or may not be shapeshifters sent to take over the world.

Silicate: Silicon-based life forms with craggly, rocklike skin.

Mutants: Roided up supersoldiers, freaks deformed by radiation, may or may not be Space Orcs.

Therians: Blanket term for the various space-anthro skins. Birds, beasts, frogs, goats, etc.

Question: Where would you put the Heritors? As they don’t seem to fit any of the Tech Axes.

Resurrecting this ancient concept for some more fun ideas/refinements given what we've learned as development has progressed.

Ruler Types

Homeworlder
A native ruler, born and raised in their home-civilization. Homeworlders have the trust and regard of their fellows, much like mortal champions in AoW4.

Ancient
Before the star league collapsed, its best and brightest minds were locked into stasis to awaken when the time was right to rebuild the old order. Carrying the knowledge of a forgotten empire and sporting strange bionic implants, the Ancient excels in the research and deployment of advanced technologies.

Transmortal
The mind is a complex network, an ever-shifting pattern of thoughts and memories. Why limit yourself to crude flesh? Transmortals are physically resilient, materially demanding ruler types who have shed their mortal flesh in exchange for eternal bodies. These forms might be made of machinery, clouds of nanites, or bioengineered ferro-chitin. They're limited in terms of equipment, but their bodies can shift and adapt to any situation, evolving over time.

Ascendant
Like the Transmortal, but nowhere near as solid, the Ascendant are beings of pure psychic power, more like living psychokinetic phenomena than flesh-and-blood beings. Ascendant rulers wield terrifying psionic powers. Some can bend the minds of others, infecting them with memetic subroutines which turn them into unwilling pawns. Others foster harmonious connections, interlinking the minds of their subjects in a beautiful gestalt. Others still subsume all thought to create an ever-growing hive-mind.

My idea for planerfall 2 would be that it’s an entire star system with around 5 planets

You start as a Fantasy Culture on one planet, the game starts with you finding a star union spaceship and reverse engineering its tech

Space is an entire layer that connects the planets and it works a bit like the umbral abyss

You can also use it to fast travel on one planet,
Planets are the size of very small AoW4 maps,

Space for maybe 5 cities

Re-thinking the alignments of technology. The poles would need to be more generalized, more abstract. Plus, they need to be made up of three sets of two opposites. So Consider..

  1. Biotech: Genetic engineering, ecological science, and medicine. Fostering life...or birthing abominations. Associated with "Bio" Damage representing acid and disease.

Opposed by...

  1. Infotech: Hacking, surveillance, espionage and conciousnesses preserved after death with digital engrams. Fighting smart, not harder...or mistreating its people. Associated with "Neural" Damage. Unleashing cognitohazards which cause the mind to literally eat itself.

  2. Engineering: Metallurgy, chemistry, engineering, energy and robotics. Sturdy and reliable...or short-sighted. Causes "Kinetic" Damage. Bullets, blades, bludgeons, railguns.

Opposed by...

  1. Quantum: Spatial warping, paracausal anomalies, manipulating forces like gravity and magnetism. Forging new horizons...or tampering in forces beyond kenning. Causes "Force" damage. Crushing magnetic feilds, shredding gravitational pull, and atom-shaking vibrations.

  2. Harmony: Communications, diplomacy, happy populations and a strong, unified front. Promoting peace...or fomenting oppression. Associated with "Ego" Damage. A form of psionic damage which literally damages ones sense-of-self.

opposed by...

  1. Discord: Warfare, mutation, raging against the dark, standing in opposition to conformity and passivity...or else, giving into violence and entropy. Inflicts "Thermal" damage from lasers, napalm, pyrokinetic blasts, or nuclear radiation.

"But where are psionics?" I hear you ask. Psionic phenomena could be found on every technology, Infotech technomancers, Discord psychokinetics, Quantum-mechanics para-seers, they would effectively fill the niche of "Battle-mage" Units. Plus, heroes can take psionic class-archetypes and weild psionic weapons.

my take what planetfall 2 should be:

Instead of one planet, its a Solar system,
The "planetfall" is actually a spaceship crashing.
Your faction starts out as a planet bound non space faring faction that reverse engineers the spaceship (kind of like the ending of endless legend 1)

Space itself is a layer like the underground,

Ive had ideas like ship battle sworking a bit like FTL
