Adds Artifact Refinery structures that generate binding essence income. These structures can only be built in a Throne City.

Artifact Refinery I: Novice Crafters - Unlocked at Town Hall II and provides 5 binding essence per turn.
Artifact Refinery II: Adept Crafters - Unlocked at Town Hall III and provides 10 binding essence per turn.
Artifact Refinery III: Master Artisans - Unlocked at Town Hall IV and provides 15 binding essence per turn.

**This mod was formerly known as Artifact Emporium. The item forge made the old mod redundant. The spirit of the mod (gaining items) is still the same, but now you just get binding essence.

We haven't really tested it yet but don't dragon lords get bonuses based on how many items they have ?

Maybe 8 to 10 turns instead but I guess that it all depends on how early you can get this building built.

Great mod! I've always been looking for a mod that lets me get more artifacts of specific types, and though this isn't the item forge I've always wanted, this comes pretty close to what I want.
My only two real complaints are:

  • I wish the option to get a premium buyer for a super-specific category would appear more often, it feels like it never happens sometimes
  • I wish you could temporarily close the event; I often keep forgetting what my heroes need so I end up buying the wrong thing because I just can't look at what they have at the moment

Thanks for the feedback! The premium buyer option is currently a 20% chance but I can bump it and maybe bump the price. It does seem like it could be higher.

Given the modding tools, I'm not sure what we can do about temporarily closing the event other than manually reloading the game to the previous turn. The only thing that comes to mind is an option to delay your decision until the next turn.

I'm also working on a mod that adds merchant shops around the map. It'll be another way to source items πŸ‘

I've had the unpleasant experience of wanting a shield and not being able to get one all game

... Also, it'd be quite helpful if the event/event options made it clearer what tier of item you're getting. Unless that's already a thing and I just have poor memory

Wait time is already pretty harsh, atleast IMO. My games barely last 50 turns; Cost would probably be fine though

What settings do you play on to finish games in ~50 turns? How much gold do you generally have to spend? I guess it varies depending on which phase of the game you're in.

New 2.0 update just released. Owning Ancient Wonders now increases the quality of items sourced. The options to source items of a specific type are now always available.

Alongside my Merchant Shops mod, these should be decent enough for more methods of item acquisition until we receive the Item Forge in the next official update! I hope Triumph adds more items too for more variety.

Totally overhauled this mod. The item forge made the old mod design for Artifact Emporium redundant. Now the mod is called Artifact Refinery and provides a building for binding essence income. Let me know how the balance feels at +10 binding essence per turn. This is equivalent to finding and disenchanting a Tier I item every 4 turns.

So far so good! The income is small enough that you can't make anything particularly powerful with it alone, yet it's still useful just in case you're missing juuust a bit more binding essence for your next item and don't have any other items to spare

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going back and forth between keeping the binding essence at 10 or nerfing it to 5. Had the opposite feedback from another user. Since you can build multiple refineries I'm leaning towards 5. But if people are split I can just make a separate mod for the 5 income.

Neat! I feel like this is gonna get out of hand pretty quick but personally, I don't mind.

If it does become a problem, making that nerfed version later would be wise. I like having alot of binding essence income because I love messing around with the item forge, even if it may throw off game balance.

If there's anything I do need to say, I think Chosen Destroyers need upgraded versions of the refinery, since they can't found any extra cities. Though if they're playing well, they don't really need it with the amount of loot they'll be taking off dead heroes...

I need to play the game more myself to evaluate how 10 binding essence income feels. Other things we can do is make the requirements harder, like make it tier 3 city only or removing the boost.

Side note, if I knew how to mod the game, I feel like I'd make a tome all about forging. Have a province improvement that eats up mana but produces binding essence income with a bonus for nearby conduits... As a sort of throwback to AoW3's item forging
But yes, play the game! There's lots of item visuals to unlock in the pantheon :v

That's a good idea. Should be easy to mod actually. I also have plans to make a modding tutorial video. I feel like modding can be easy but just getting started is very confusing.

Haven't gotten around to playing the new story realms yet - haven't even touched Dragon Dawn's πŸ˜“
Currently just replaying the main story realms (and actually playing through realms 4 and 5 since I never got around to finishing those) since I just cleared my pantheon from characters and thought it'd be a perfect excuse to play the realms again

On an average playthrough I seem to end off the game with about +40 binding essence income which seems a bit... strong; it's actually kinda hard to make use of it all with how quickly it starts piling up

Sounds like we need to nerf it down from 10 to 5 binding essence per turn. And I'll make a separate mod for the +10 for the people who want something less balanced.

It definitely did make me appreciate the random items AI stocks, now. They're not strong, but they're affordable, so you can easily fill out a hero's slots with some decent equipment, which they also restock pretty often. I'm particularly looking forward for your merchant shops mod to have random gen items to have this sort of service in a multiplayer game

Side note, giving merchant shops a similar service to the artifact emporium from the older version of the mod would be pretty neat if you just want a random high tier item and are already busy forging something else-- or have money to spend

New update. Rebalanced the mod according to a great suggestion from the Steam workshop page.

I didn't get the chance to verify. I assume if you already built the artifact refinery then it would stay built even if the city is not a throne city.

It feels paced across different levels of play and length. Late game it was nice for arming up heros with full sets of tier 4. But it felt spread out enough it wasn't too crazy.

I've seen to run into a small issue. I've just captured a city capital and noticed that I was making 25 binding essence, after looking around I saw 2 farms making essence but it stated it was coming from Novice Crafters. I went back to a save before I captured the city making sure I the player wasn't causing it but it was still showing. I looked around and found another AI player that also had 2 farms making essence. I'm not sure what's causing it I'm going to do more testing and see if I can't found the problem just wanted to let you know.

Thanks for the report! Woah, definitely did not expect farms to give binding essence. That's very strange, I don't see how that would be logically possible. I wonder if that's a bug with the base game code.

So out of 6 Ai 2 of them have 2 farms each giving 5 and 1 has a quarry giving 15 "5+10" the other 3 have no tiles giving extra.

Yeah I looked over the modded files and don't see anything weird. Compared it against other base game income buildings as well.

I guess you could get me a save file and I can investigate when I have time. I don't know if the devs will fix a bug that only happens with a mod haha.

And if its related to the AI having the refinery built, I can block the AI from building the refineries as a workaround. But I'd need to confirm.
