I loved the AoW3 Terrain preferences, having to use other races than your own simply because of Goblins hating arctic areas or Frostlings hating vulcanic areas.
If you wanted to conquer/defeat other fractions on terrain your race doesn't like you had to either get yourself one of these "hearts", be necromancer or use another race.

Ofcourse you can't bind forms to the different terrains as it was made in AoW3, but you could make a 3d race creation field for it.
That would also enable players who dislike having to give a body trait for things like underground adaption to give their race a terrain adaption without having to give up the body trait.
(I hate not being able to create sneaky cave dwelling rats and goblins)

Only downside to this is you'd have to make several more adaptions, once for each terrain, so everyone can choose one fitting to his playstyle, plus maybe one allrounder adaption for those who don't want to specialise themselves.

I really enjoyed the racial terrain preferences as well and it is sorely missed

You do have the swamp and desert adaptations though.

in AoW3 was a terrain your race prefers and has advantages on and a terrain your race doesn't like. If you were on a terrain your race doesn't like you either had to play with a huge disadvantage or use some spells or things like that so your people aren't too unhappy.

#

I personally really loved that, since it kind of forced you to play with different races and not only your own.

#

At the moment you are rather forced to play with only your own race, since your whole combat style is probably build around it and their culture, you only get advantages of changing every citie's population into your own race, which makes the game sometimes a bit difficult for good alignment, or at least gives you a big disadvantage.

If you bring the old terrain preferences for every race back good people get at least some advantages for not relying on only their own race.

Yeah they honestly don't feel even remotely the same. I agree on bringing them back. They should be their own required trait section you pick at start, and then maybe adaptation worked into and combined with them since it'd be kinda redundant

so you weren't actually forced to go multi-race although the incentive was definitely there.

Who else agrees that AOW3 managed to get a surprising amount of depth out of the little amount of content it had, while AOW4 feels more bloated and shallow in comparison? It's great how much content they put into this game but they really need to make each unit/spell etc. more distinct so that our choices matter.

I really don't like agreeing because I absolutely love this game and it has tons of potential but i gotta agree. 4 is tons of fun but 3 is the better game atm. Main reason I'm playing 4 more are mostly turn times, 64bit, and the ability to play halflings and not have them just be a joke farm race...prefered 1s depiction. If not for those I'd probably be playing 3 more atm
