#My ally wins the game but I still lose?

They weren’t allied, just vassalized. I can see why it’d be surprising, but if vassalized players can’t ever win, it would have to be game over if a player got vassalized themselves.
I mean, if you are vassal of somebody, the other one should win too with the allied victory thing, since he's the one allowing you to have the score.
I also think if you're the vassal of somebody and the other one wins with anything that's not a military victory you should get the win too.
I have won many games being a vassal to the AI
I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to win if you're a vassal, but your overlord should also get the win. i.e. multiple people win, which is what I would expect if "allied victory" is enabled :/
To be clear though, are you saying that if we were just allies and not overlord/vassal then I would have got the victory? Because I'm doubtful that I would after seeing this happen
you should in theory
that's how i won the last campaign map
i just held the line and then around turn80 my ally won with a magic victory, thus i won too
The OP said he has it activated
it is not since it was already mentioned often enough in this threat alone.
I'm now in a new campaign and I'm so confused about whether I should let my ally win or not lol. They're about to win by Magic Victory and I don't know if I should break my alliance and attack them or not. Would be great to get a dev's input on this...
I have won with ally getting magic victory, but that was before the recent patch
Magic victory is supposed to work for allies. If it doesn't, it's either a bug or some story realm shenanigans.
The most likely is that sometimes when setting up a custom realm, changing a setting on one tab makes it forget the changes on another. So you could have checked allied victory, and then it (stupidly) forgot.
I now always do the Realm Traits tab first, then the game and combat conditions - speed etc. And finally the factions. That seems to never bug out.
