#climate effects

We do know at least that the Frostling transformation on the orcs in the preview is supposed to help them out while their wizard queen is transforming everything into arctic climate
But I didn’t see any trait that would make a race not like a certain climate. So maybe it’s just bonuses, not negatives? That also flattens the diversity a lot
Planetfall largely removed terrain morale modifiers too, though some races' units did like certain terrain better, such as Amazon with forests or Kir'ko with fungal
I am guessing the only terrain-based morale effects will be from the adaptation traits for Forms
like the desert adaptation default for Tigrans or underground adaptation that Moles usually get
That’s kind of sad, it removes a great strategic layer…
maybe with the new morale system in which units can rout now, it is too unbalanced to have a buff and debuff occurring because of climate/terrain.
so just a buff occurs
I kinda hated when my armies would have suddenly poor moral because I was passing through an unliked terrain in aow3.
Domain of blight and warp land was fun.
Hazards replaced disliked terrain, go go shroud of the abyss on your enemies residence sector
In the updated FAQ it is said:
We have handled race-terrain interaction a bit differently in AoW4 [compared to AOW3]. Some race transformations give morale bonuses in certain terrain types. Frostlings are happier in the arctic, for example. Additionally, some races have traits that allow them to settle in inhospitable places, or develop abilities to harness environmental features in unique ways.
The last part about unique ways sounds intruiging...
So only bonuses, no maluses 😑
well, not necessarily
'some races have traits that allow them to settle in inhospitable places' implies that races without those traits struggle to do so
Or simply can’t
That's actually even more significant a penalty for it than in previous games!
