There has to be a way to TURN DOWN the fog/cloud thickness in this game! Right now it becomes IMPOSSIBLE at times to fly between islands(sigh) due to heavy fog/cloud cover. If its NOT possible then please install a RADAR type system(man protable also) so to be able to at least range detect where the ground is at ? At times in this game it becomes impossible to SWING under islands due to heavy fog/clouds also!
#Clouds, Clouds, Clouds, and then Fog also?

This is a night screenshot, its the same in daytime. Just yesterday there was a CLOUD that ran almost the full length of the map from North to South right in the main middle of the map(sigh) making it impossible to transit and see where your going... Give the players the OPTION to turn OFF clouds/Fog as other game makers have done... .some of us JUST DONT LIKE this kind of gameplay.
This is a screenshot of daytime clouds.... theres also a BAND of clouds going North to South.
you can turn down the fog intensity/detail in the game settings
Can you please get that fact added to the Faq's? @quartz vortex
i'm not in charge of any of that, just another player trying to be helpful
Glad to have your feedback on this subject, but im hoping the game Devs/producers will take note of this issue? Game settings/etc, among other things are not clearly defined anywhere(maybe in the Wiki that was made soon?)
thanks
possibly. we are still pretty early in the development process so expect plenty of changes, possibly even to things like the settings or how tooltips are displayed
OK, heres a screenshot of the fog/clouds settings on LOW;
i find it worse to look at, btw, I have a Ryzen 9 processor along with an xt7900rx GPU and 32 gbs of ram... Plenty for this game to process even at Ultra and streaming on twitch?
Anyways, there it is(cant stream this) Hopefully the devs will look into this issue soon?
Sure, its about the Streamer(most times) but its also Entertainment, if theres NOTHING but white skies to see(from the veiwers point of view) then they wont stick around (between planets) to watch?)... Well, thats my 2 cents on this subject, btw, im semi-retired and ONLY stream for charity now as im 69 years old.
Nuff Said.
Please, no offense intended, its GREAT work, but theres some games on the market, that are basically ruined with this kind of clouds/fogs(sigh).... Keep up the good work guys.,(Devs) thanks
Try fighting the Herald at night in a cloud...the strobe flashes are quite intense. I'd like to see a reduction in the big fog clouds depth, and a longer sunrise/sunset period, as the pink clouds look awesome.
Like i said, the option to turn off(entirely) or on should be the players?
to be fair, Worlds Adrift had basically no clouds just varying fog, and it was useful for avoiding the box death ships, so I prefer the look of these nice billowy clouds. It is hard to code clouds I believe. Overall, i like the clouds they've made. In a fast ship you're through them in pretty quick. But i agree a cloud density slider might be good, although it's kinda cheating.
If PVP makes it in, I'd imagine it'd have to be a server setting
Hmmm, I would think that PVP is already a possibility, being that the Characters CAN get injured by animals/etc? Its just a matter of forming teams(3 max each side now only) or going at it alone(SP Server?) but i digress(right? Stay on topic?) about the overabundance of CLOUDS?/FOG?...(sigh)
Looking at it, I think the clouds are fixed, ie they don't move - just their edges move around when you are near them. So making a density slider may be a bit tricky. But they may be able to adjust the opacity of them with a slider.
BTW, IF the Devs decide to ADD and on/off switch for clouds/fog ... in doing this it will ALSO enable PC users with lower speed computer to purchase the game. We all know that clouds/fog in gaming is a HUGE drain on pc in all aspects.
(Larger market share)
I dunno about that here - I think the fixed clouds reduce overhead, my PC fps is highest when away from the islands and in the clouds
No clouds/fog(on/off switch) would reduce the usage on a pc considerably, thus enabling a lower min specs for a pc as well.
Wouldn’t that make things worse? I’d think complex islands in the distance behind clouds wouldn’t need to be rendered and could be culled, whereas if you remove clouds now everything in your field would need to render
@stuck cobaltVisually yes, i agree on the rendering, but once you take away the ram load(constant data flow to build clouds/fog) then the rendering becomes a moot topic, allowing the lower powered pc's to play this game.
Think of PC theory instead and not so much about the technical side of this, and it will become a bit more clearer? Its becomes more of a trade-off in ram usage with clouds, allowing more ram for rendering.
Without clouds though - its kinda not Lost Skies, like the clouds are a core feature of the game and serve two main purposes - concealing island for explorations sake, and making you feel like you're actually flying. I get what you're saying about reducing overhead on lower PC specs, but usually as the game gets better optimised those overheads are reduced.
YEP, the debate here(and glad you helped me show what the Dev's are up against @eager perch) should straighten itself ALL out when they get near optimization stage... sure a switch WOULD be nice to have(off/on) but in early developement... I doubt its in the planning stage? Thanks again!
Did we cover about all of it concerning Clouds?
