#Running requiring stamina

I don't know if anybody else is on the same page but having my stamina drained when I run always feels like a mistake in games. I understand it in games like Elden Ring but even then you only drain stamina when in combat. In lost skies its all the time. For an exploration/adventure game not based around Melee combat it just feels out of place.

Am I alone in feeling this way? is there anyway to make a suggestion/petition to have it changed?

definitely not alone. everyone i’ve spoken to about the stamina says it feels horribly out of place

This is an interesting point. I just took it for granted that sprinting is a limited resource. However I like you point that maybe only have it consume stamina when in combat. That frees up sprinting to save time getting around.

I went sprinting off a cliff yesterday and tried to deploy my glider but I was out of stamina. Oops. 😬 learning opportunity.

I kind of agree. I like the stamina management, it's similar to how Valheim works in the way that you eat food that increases your stamina allowing you to move more and consume more stamina in fights and movement. But with Lost Skies there isn't a lot of food (in the demo) to have that be apart of the game play loop, in many players eyes. I personally love cooking so as soon as I find out that there is a way to cook food I focus on that a lot lol.

It feels more ingrained into the gameplay in valheim. love that game. as it is now, it comes across as awkward and sorta detracts from the feel of exploration. if they express a plan to expand on cooking then I could see stamina taking it's place in the game. in valheim that was my favorite part, learning the new recipes and setting up displays for the food.

I feel like cooking actually is going to be expanded a lot

already I have a bunch of different meats to cook, recipes to make sauces and soups, better cooking equipment iirc

I agree I feel like it’s out of place in an exploration game like this. Maybe remove stamina use for the glider at the least.

ive heard some comparisons to valheim, but valheim doesn't have a grappling hook
there's an entirely separate method of movement that lets you almost completely ignore the stamina system, while being faster and more convenient, id prefer if food gave some more creative buffs

I got no issue with the stam once leveled up

Im guessing it will be handled by cooking, otherwise there isn't much point to the cooking system all together. I do think running should not cost stamina, but I'm willing to let them cook for now

Only time I had an issue with stamina was 15 min into the game when I tried killing a "deer" with my fists.
Outside of that you have plenty of ways to traverse the world outside of running or yanking, it just takes some practice.

I feel stamina drain for sprinting in Lost Skies is pointless and unecessary tbh, even with the grappler's pull function too. I could see it being used as a balance for dodging while in combat, but not for exploring the vast islands on foot.

For me the stamina system as it currently exists just forces me to wait standing still until I can continue. I've never been in danger of dying because I lacked stamina, but I did always notice that I suddenly have to wait before I can jump off the island because I sprinted to the edge.

For anyone who missed it, there was a lengthy developer post about stamina in another thread. It's primarily in the context of grappling, but they're reconsidering the cost of sprinting: #1343378032835952771 message

My guess is that the developers are likely expert grapplers because they developed the system and have a ton of time with it, and so they may have an inflated idea of how good most people are at the grappling mechanics. They may not realize that most newer players have a strong over reliance on the more stamina heavy aspects. Cuz to me, the stamina feels very balanced, I've had absolutely no issues with it

Grapple boost costing 10 stamina is too much, methinks

There are some islands where grappling might not be a reliable traversal option. A creator might design an island's surface with a wide open, treeless plain, or have lots of cramped, subterranean spaces where there isn't room to swing, anti-grapple platforming rooms or labyrinth-style mazes.

perhaps another fix would be to just eventually let us start a world with a custom game mode- custom difficulty settings across the board. It's how I played No Man's Sky. One of the only things I changed in that game was flipping Sprint from costing stamina to not 🤣 :

Custom game mode would be a good compromise- that way the devs get to have normal mode be the way they want people to experience it, and those who want to play another way can also
