I've only spent like $60(two skins and a gem pack) on this game but other than that I'm f2p and have been since January so I know the feeling and the answer for me is yes. All I'm really saying is it's not hard to get at least 1 or 2 limited pulls a day. Resources aren't that limited.

To add to this if you played the event before reset you got a full 5 tins to use to get a head start on it, then using 100 gems to buy 5 extra you were already at stage 10, after reset you get a free refill so event finished. Then claim rewards for 10 rainbow tickets. So 100 gems(a 100p daily challenge finish) gets you 10 limited pulls. Which is pretty sweet.

You have to remember that pilgrims are premium units. They are supposed to be for people that spend a ton of money or they just are super lucky. I don’t go out of my way for pilgrim units, only focus on regular units cause that’s what I can control mainly as a low spend player (I mean I whaled on Dorothy but that’s been it Since) . All the gems you see I saved up since then for the collab events

anticipated on using one ticket of the 500milage I saved since day one that I haven’t touched and yet till this day. but somehow right when I was on the last pull I had left I was able to obtain her, after which followed by another and then 2 modernia making that 4pilgrims within under 20 single pulls in a row.

Since the time I heard about the Neir collab I’ve started saving gems for nier and clearing out more content for gems I’d otherwise was lazy to do. brought an event II package and monthly gems.

It’s been nearly 3months where I’ve saved from 0gems and only brought monthly since then. now I have accumulated about 100k gems worth in special recruitment tickets, about 1/3 of my account total gems used or pulls done overall in the account.
