So I don't disagree with anything you said. I completely agree with it. But it's also quite alien to me because I largely had flip phones and early iPods in high school, not smart phones.
For me, growing up with the internet was like taking a break from rl and just being silly in a completely anonymous way. Whether it was chatting with friends, shitposting or forcing an entire website into doing what we wanted because everything was basically a forum and no amount of moderation could stop a loud enough voice.
It's nothing like that anymore. The anonymity is completely gone, the freedom is gone, the agency is gone.

I'm basically a Taoist, so my take is that we as living things, are the universe itself, observing itself.
But it's also because of this belief that I do not hold us in any special regard. We are no more special than the skin cells we shed every day.
