New suggestion droppin' right now!

IDEA?
Consumable Medallions as element of items we could get only from shops. I once posted similar idea on chat so for some the 'idea' may feel you seen it somewhere.

WHY?
We have a lot of chances to get medallions after recent updates, and shops seems like they are unnecessary also have them.
So I bump into an idea that maybe if, at least, the medallions in shops were different?

HOW?
Consumable Medallions would destroy itself after meeting some conditions, or charges. Would not be possible to refine them (as these include some conditions before they breaks). Would be equipped as any other medallion.

EXAMPLEs?
This medallion upgrade 1 random Medallion after you kill 25 enemies. 2 charges and then breaks.
This medallion increase damage to bosses by 30%. Breaks after killing a boss.
This medallion restore 10 Energy/s. Breaks after restoring total of 500 Energy Points.
This medallion increase weapon durability (with awakening that add that mechanic). Breaks when a weapon breaks.
This medallion adds 50 points of shield. Restore after 10s of not getting hit. 5 charges and then breaks.
This medallion protect you from getting damage from 3 hits and then breaks.
... and much more could be done.

This is the variety I'm looking for. This is similar to medallions, but different enough. It's a variation of a lot of things we talked about, but probably one of the most fitting.

"Consumable medallions" for me it's just a label, can be a potion, a totem, whatever. If something from PoP fits better, ok. I like the mechanic here

This is a very common concept in the roguelike modding community. Consumable buffs aren't an unpopular idea.

Best Balatro cards are the ones that buffs itself without limit

Imagine something like that in The Rogue
Gains 0.5% damage increase each time you kill enemy
Gains 0.1% critical damage each time you land critical hit.

Overall I do think that if we would have more types of medallions the game will be more interesting

We have now:

  • Normal medallions + refined version
  • Legendary + refined version-- tho these are legendary only in name xd
  • Corrupted medallions + refined version
    Would be great to have also:
  • Consumable medallions
  • Medallions that stacks bonuses up ⬆️ (similar to some Balatro cards)
    While we are about Balatro, then consumable can also looks like other Balatro cards, the ones that hold kind of strong bonus that debuffs itself down, so like :
    Gets 50% critical damage, each time you land critical hit the bonus is decreased by 0.5%. Breaks after reaching 0%.
    Naturally it would be a medallion we would replace at some point (due to real low benefit of the bonus at the very end) and then we could introduce something like that, and it would incredibly well create synergies between medallions and its mechanics.
Replacing consumable medallion renew it.```
the name for it can be "Repair kit" (most basic example for it)

Tho... If we think about it. The Repair kit could work with all medallions... What if... We also had
Awakening Stone
Biodegradation
Each time you pass to next biome one random medallion get damaged.
Damaged medallions would be still in equipment, could be repaired with Repair Kit.

The bonus from such medallion would be turned off till repaired.

Such damaged one could be also replaced by another medallion.

This is some "Upon entering Small or Big Blind, debuff one Joker; upon entering Boss Blind, destroy one Joker" type shenanigans.
Debuff a medallion every new biome, destroy a medallion every boss fight, debuffed medallions could be refined back to working status at Astara.

And it could be a two-step Awakening Stone, with the lower value one just debuffing a medallion at the start of a boss biome and the second step debuffing a medallion EVERY biome and destroying one in the boss biomes.

And Astara's prices could be lower for repairing medallions than for refining them, so that you wouldn't need to introduce a new consumable to make it work.

I love the fact that I'm applying A POKER GAME logic to A PLATFORMER GAME.
They're both rogue-based games, but it's amusing how far apart in the genre they are.

In theory. As I always repeated. It's mechanic. Medallions is just graphical image. It could be cards images in The Rogue and it would not change anything
