Issue

Listed users can not finish the mapping process due to the front top section (What the mapping tool interprets as the wall your "PC" is at) being poor. When some of the listed users tried setting what the trackers interprets as the PC to a different wall in their play space, it says that specific section of the room is now poor rather than the same physical spot that was previously poor. Some of the listed users are unable to use their trackers due to this issue.

Picture below for reference.

tl;dr: What is considered the "PC" side is always poor, even when the "PC" side is changed.

-# If you or you know anyone with this issue, please make a post here with information. This is not a thread for people having general issues with their map. Please only post in here if it is related to this issue. Pinning any new information from users that are confirmed to have this exact issue.

Anyone tagged in here, if you have more information, please post it here. If you can test some more and post some results here, please do so.

The more information that the HTC VIVE team can work with, the better.

@elfin radish @coral quest Whenever you have the time and you are in office, check this out. Please read main message.

I'm going to go for the time being. I'm going to be reorganizing and cleaning my office so my computer will be off.

I'll have my phone on me if needed, though I will be blasting music so I might not hear anything

I have tried switching to 50hz as I'm in the UK
Tried connecting to a USB2 port
Tried repositioning the dongle and cradle
Tried changing the light conditions

None of these made any difference.

I am in a room with posters etc. on all the walls and a lot of detail to "latch on" to.

I have ordered a brighter bulb for the room as I am running out of options.

If there's any way to pull some logs I could do that.

I always had that one spot glowing red but It didn't matter and didn't interfere with my tracking but since the latest patches I can't finish the tracking map with it. I have a light standing on my desk that provides my room the needed coverage, I have tried setting it somewhere else which didn't work and gave the same problem, I can only finish the tracking map when I open my window blinds during the day which are right behind where normally the Light on my desk is.

Sorry, thought your issue was related at a glance.

I just tried my fix again, same conditions (I believe), and I got the red square again. I must have gotten lucky or made some change that I’m not aware of. Before I got the fixed map, I was able to create one even with the red square and I had 0 tracking issues.

I’m going to try again and open my blinds and turn my LED lights off and see if natural light helps

Is it always the same physical space or specifically what the tool considers the "PC" that is poor?

ember orchid
#

despite it saying the pc face is good, the vuts lose tracking in the space and i must face the opposite direction to my actual pc for them to regain reliably

ah, confused with a different issue then. would you like me to delete my post as to not cause confusion?

wooden orchid
#

Yeah, I'll bring up the issues with tracking on black surfaces elsewhere.

#

Again, apologies.

Just did it again with natural light and 0 LED lights (from my light strips) and I got this. The yellow area is an unlit area below my dresser and it usually always gets yellow anyways.

#

I'm unsure if this is really a height issue like I suggested (holding it higher than usual), or something to do with lighting or hardware.

ember orchid
#

as this appears to actually be a system specific issue rather than an issue with how the trackers actually perform, would it not be worth referencing basic hardware spec as well as software state, ie cpu gpu dram, winver and installed steamvr drivers?

spare cosmos
#

I find it weird a couple other people have the same issue and no matter what wall you face, that specific section is always red. Could be something not lighting related

Apologies

You did the same step where your tracker was lifted higher along with natural light or just natural light?

#

Also I do got to go now and get my office cleaned. I'll respond to further messages in a bit.

I doubt the natural light made a difference unless your room's lighting is bad but, I could be wrong.

For particular users, particular problems, setting the chest height to a much higher spot in the mapping process actually help stuff.

I haven't made a map in months but had to because of the new updates, I scanned my room 5 times and that same spot is always red. I've always been able to have perfect maps until now
