it's not so much about performance though that is a small factor, it's more so I no longer fuck with the switch and haven't for a while.

it's a few things, for starters it's the modern day why are we still limiting things to 30 fps we are not in the fucking stone age. everything and I do mean everything should be able to run consistently at 60fps at an absolute minimum, I personally see zero excuse for 30fps caps to exist anymore

and that's not even mentioning the resolution caps like bro I have a 1440p monitor let me use it to it's fullest

and while they are for sure not the worst controllers i've used by a long shot, I don't fuck with the joycons even slightly and I've had so many bad experiences with the pro controller namely in battery life.

all and all on release I thought the switch was great and inovative but with time it's only aged like milk to me

if the switch 2 first of all performs better, second gets rid of these really low limits that shouldn't exist in the current age, and third gets some genuinely good controllers then nintendo you can have my wallet at a moments notice

cause here's the thing, with most ranked games if that happens I'm like "okay, lock in, you were doing really well against platinums in the beta so you can probably get to platinum"

but then I did the math based on other people's games

I would have to win 47 games

in a row

to go from rookie to plat

the only exception was back when I first played strive, I managed to rank up to floor 8 pretty quickly and was feeling good, saw a leo and went "hm, never faught a leo, this will be good practice for me"

we fought, and fuck man the first game was so close, I knew I could beat him so I rematched. second game I managed to get the win but it was close, I figured out how to deal with something he was hitting me with and was adapting. third game, 1-1, it was super fucking close, both of us adapting back and forth mid game, I won a round he won a round. sadly he won but by baaarely, if I hit a few more attacks I would've won. it felt amazing, and then I never saw him again

this, imo, is a premium example of playing someone 1. truly at your level and 2. where you aren't bogged down by top tiers (looking at you tekken)

Imo if that was your only goal playing a fighting game, you shouldn't have been comp in it. For me the only reason I'm able to stay comp in smash for 5 years is bc i love the game at it's core and it's 99% of the time fun even when I'm competing. There are times where i fall into the hole of, winning is my only fun and goal, but then it gets painful to play and i have to reset my mindset before i play again and i CAN do that since i love the game genuinely.

I think that's for the best, that's one big problem and barrier to entry with tag fighters is that they have insanely long combos

and it's already bad enough when a new player gets combo'd in other games where they feel they didn't get to play for ages

but in certain 2XKO combos you literally didn't get to play for ages

Thing is when I'm talking about taking a game competitively, i do mean to the fullest extent, because my point entirely revolves around breaking through plateuing

I think the fullest extent is very different from player to player

there are plenty examples of people that just play the game and they are objectively comepetitive in it

and don't practice

but in the case of breaking through a plateue, that is also a thing where you can still have a "I only have fun when I win" mindset

cause if you love the game and WANT to go back to winning

you'll be motivated to keep playing

keep getting better, however you see fit

and eventually you'll start winning again

I still highly disagree, mostly because i have seen it several times myself with all my friends and the smash community. Cus like yes it is POSSIBLE, but rly you're better off going to a game that you do love to play no matter the outcome

well that idea isn't really sound when you look at it from a broader picture, to a degree at least

like, take this for example

say someone plays an MMORPG like idk WOW or something

and they truly, only have fun playing the game when they are doing PVP

pve/story is boring to them

that is a totally sound and reasonable way to play the game and have your fun

and if that person wants to be better at pvp, they might be motivated to go out into the parts they don't find fun, like doing some quests to get some really good pvp items

same with fighting games

if someone's having the most fun when they are winning

then they would be motivated to practice, vod review, watch guides, etc

so they can win more

people have fun their own ways

and respond to what they do and don't like in their own ways

just because you have seen the opposite in many cases doesn't mean that these cases don't happen

plus this isn't to be confused with the kind of people that are forcing themselves to play the game and win all the time, this is the more healthy version of "oh well I didn't win at all today so that sucked, guess I'll try again tomorrow"

games are like anything in life, they take work. even if you love your job there will be some hellish days, even if you love your spouse there will still be times you get into fights, and with the games you love there will be many times you don't have fun but that doesn't mean the fun is over/you should move elsewhere

if you choose to quit/breakup/move on that's your choice, but that doesn't mean the struggles you have aren't normal or valid

not having fun =/= you don't love the game anymore
