Let me propose to you a scenario: you’re playing Warzone, Apex, any other competitive Battle Royale game. Most games, you die quickly off the drop for any number of reasons, such as bad loot, too many opponents, or simply skill issue. However, every once in a while, you make it out of your drop zone. You make it to mid game, get a couple kills, have good loot, maybe even get your loadout marker. There’s like 20-30 people left at this point and while you haven’t won yet, it’s not inconceivable. You’re at the point where the first inkling of “Oh shoot… There is a small possibility I could actually land this W”. You haven’t won, you’re not close yet, it’s not endgame, you don’t have 10 kill momentum, but you’re right at the beginning of the portion of the game where you gain a little hope.

I may have just reached said metaphorical place in this symbolic Battle Royale game. I started talking to someone, we actually have a lot in common, she’s very nice, I’ve been aware of her for around 4 years, and she has explicitly expressed a desire to get to know me. I’m not in endgame, I’m not about to land the W, no deal sealing is yet in the works, but I have decent loot, and I’m just barely beginning to hope that maybe, just maybe, there’s a small chance I succeed
