Metaphor

Romanized:
Sach bolun to
Main kabhi nahin likh sakta
Tum kitni khoobsurat ho
Ye likhai, sher, ghazalein
Meri qalam, zehan, nazrein
Dhang se nahin utaar sakti
Tere husn-o-jamaal ko
Likhne baithun to sawaal ho
Tere husn pe likhun ya seerat pe
Teri dariya-dili ki niyyat pe
Aisa nahin tumhein kabhi likha nahin
Par jab bhi unhein padhun to lage
Unmein tera sab jaadu dikha nahin
Teri aankhen, baatein, zulfein, gaal
Shaamal surat, gulaabi lab
Tere tabassum pe loota doon sab
Saadgi, sharafat, dariya-dili
Dil pe kitni kahaniyan likhi
Aur sach bolun to
Teri husn aur seerat qaabil
Koi isti'aarat nahin hai
Kisi mein tum si baat nahin hai
Bas itna jaan lo
Bahut khoobsurat ho tum
Dilruba, dil-aara, hum-nasheen
Kitne naam doon tumko ab
Meri poori duniya ho tum

Tabassum : smile
Isti'aarat : Metaphor (an old urdu word there's no like modern word for metaphor)

English:(translation by ChatGPT)
To be honest,
I could never truly write
How beautiful you are.
These words, these verses, these ghazals—
My pen, my mind, my gaze—
None can fully capture
The grace of your beauty.
When I sit down to write, I hesitate—
Should I write of your beauty, or your soul?
Of your kindness, vast as a river?
It’s not that I’ve never written about you,
But whenever I read those lines again,
They feel incomplete—
As if they fail to hold your magic.
Your eyes, your words, your hair, your cheeks,
Your dark skinned face, your rose-tinted lips—
I could give away everything for your smile.
Your simplicity, your grace, your generosity—
How many stories they’ve carved upon my heart.
And truth be told,
Neither your beauty nor your soul
Can be contained in mere metaphors.
There is no one who compares to you.
Just know this much—
You are incredibly beautiful.
Beloved, heart-stealer, companion of my soul—
How many names can I give you?
You are my entire world.

Honestly, I had a bit of difficulty understanding this but it's okay cause I learned new words today INNOCENT
The way this moves from complex words to those small details like aankhen, baatein and zulfein made it feel very personal and also reminded me of the song maula mere maula.
Switching to "bas itna jaan lo, bahut khoobsurat ho tum" at the end makes it feel just sincere I dunno why 😭
Also "dil pe kitni kahaniyan likhi" is easily the most relatable line.
It's just so hauntingly beautiful, great work 🫠
