Huzzah!
From my years in The Art of Poetry, I sorely miss reading poems that look like this. There is something incredibly tear-jerking about having people I knew since 2024 who still write like this. Now, I feel that everyone I know is on another level of writing, and I sometimes feel a little insecure about my own poetry. However, with people like you—who never stopped being you—I find myself back to where I started in TAoP.
The poem for me does a lot with displaying simpler techniques, but these simplicities still carry a lot of weight. Imagery and Metaphors ( even extended metaphors ) are something that I find to be unique to you. The second stanza is my favourite especially. From Leaves rustling to contempt and hurt. It is what I envisioned poetry to be, and I have been chasing these kind of lines ever since starting.
Now, I know that the first paragraph does not talk about the poem at all, but if I am being honest? I just wanted a reason to talk about poetry again; not as a friend, as a moderator—Lead Moderator at that—as an older member, but just as a regular again. It sounds weird, but I kind of miss being a normal member again, opening Discord, entering TAoP, and chatting without thinking about the next action. Just a poet who wanted to share his poems. I really do appreciate this poem for what it is, and I will always appreciate that I have mutuals here like you, who continue to write poetry without regard for attention; just another writer with a piece to share.
That first stanza coming from you is so surprising to me because you have been someone I have idolized all these years. Some of the best poetry I have read on this server has been from you. I believe we should never compare our own writing to others because while we might try to speak on the same topics our lives are all different and have thus shaped all of us in various different ways and it shows in our poems - any art we create has that underlying signature that says it was made by me. And well I am me I will always me so there is that.
I think there's something so beautiful in simplicity - not to say there's anything wrong with complex stuff there's place for them too, they are integral too. It's just for me I have always preferred it to be a little simpler. It is an honor to have you say you found something so great as "poetry" in my poem.
It is understandable that with those responsibilities such as the ones you have it might feel like you are no longer another poet, but I'd say you being those things doesn't change you as a poet or as a reader. While you might need to think about a few things you're always welcome to treat me as you did back then. It is more than appreciated.
And thankyou so much poetica I was having a crisis ngl just a few minutes ago before I saw your review. The whole message made me feel seen in a way that I can't explain to you but know that this matters a lot to me. I appreciate all your words and am grateful you think so highly of me.
That is such an honor coming from you
You can also look at this like a Ratatouille situation.
One taste of something familiar takes them all the way back.
Yeah nostalgia is a powerful emotion
