personally I understood this to be like if you're alone and not talking to anybody, and there are many people talking in that room, and the "moon" is almost like a metaphor for being deep in thought
clearly narrator has someone they don't like
that's why they will either physically sit somewhere else that's even farther than the "eloquent distance" that "divides us two" or be that distance in thought

orrrr maybe the narrator doesn't like someone else who, to them, is "too much"
and then they're trying to get even more space than necessary to avoid talking to that person
all in all, i like it and the word choice is pretty cool
