I am their legs when trials rise, to help them stand upright,
I am their knees to lift them up when life puts up a fight.
I am their rear to break the fall, their back when burdens weigh,
The one who stands behind them firm, to guide them on their way.
I am their mouth to take the poison that heartache may instill,
Their stomach strong to cleanse the pain and bend it to my will.
I am their nose to breathe the smoke, their lungs to clear the air,
Their eyes that pierce through every lie, their mind when hope seems bare.
For I am first, the one ahead, the shield they cannot wield,
The world is harsh and sharp and cold—my duty is to shield.
They know not yet its twisted turns, its shadows dark and tall,
So I stand firm, a guiding flame, a beacon through it all.
This is my oath, a quiet vow, unbroken, like no other:
I'll guard and lift and lead with love,
For Tis what i am:
An elder brother.
