"Ephemeral Bonds"
In days of old, love's flame burned bright,
Promises forever, a lifelong light.
Through joy and strife, we'd stand as one,
Till death did part, the final act was done.
But now, a fleeting dance, a moment's thrill,
Promises are made, with no intent to fulfill.
Each day, a new vow, a new flame ignites,
Leaving ashes of yesterday's love, in endless nights.
Once, love was pure, a heartfelt creed,
Now, lust's the driver, a moment's need.
No depth, no substance, just a surface glance,
A world of self, where love's lost its chance.
We used to cherish, the beauty of the soul,
Now, we crave, the thrill of the role.
No commitment, no loyalty, no might,
Just a series of encounters, without a fight.
In the past, we'd work through the pain,
Through trials and tribulations, love would remain.
But now, we flee, at the first sign of strife,
Leaving broken hearts, and a lifetime's rife.
The definition of love, has been distorted and worn,
From a bond of trust, to a temporary form.
We're lost in the haze, of instant gratification,
Forgetting the beauty, of true love's foundation.
Yet, still we yearn, for that deeper connection,
A love that's real, a love that's true in affection.
Perhaps, one day, we'll learn to see,
That love's not just a feeling, but a choice to be.
Until then, we'll wander, in this maze of desire,
Searching for a love, that's pure and true in fire.
For in the end, it's not the promises that we make,
But the actions that follow, that our hearts will undertake.
