sunlight on the stream
a cute mammal dashed and dived
into the water—
a little otter!
pitter patter
splitter splatter
whiskers a-quiver,
as it eyed the silver glimmers in the water
the sun above, the clock struck noon
it was lunchtime soon!
after gorging on its slippery feast,
tummy full of terrified trout—
it was time to play.
it spent the day slipping and sliding,
glissading and gliding down the muddy slope—
a happy otter to say the least!
it played and ate the day away,
until the skies turned grey—
then lazily floated on its back
rafting, a sight to be seen,
like it was trying to pray.
a furry little thing that captured everyone’s hearts,
its little paws sticking out of the water
as it basked in the stream—
such a delicate fluffball.
the sun said goodbye,
and the otter darted away to its den.
tomorrow it would start the fun once again!
