Everyday, I beat myself against the waves
Trying to soothe their aching songs
As a trident's sent to slit my throat
I narrowly avoid my grand death,
Grasping onto every breath
Until the storms gather over my eyes,
And the riptides threaten to swallow me
The seas scream into my ears
And all my strength disappears
As the wild wind lunges at my arms,
I escape narrowly, with my rudimentary charms

They sent me to protect their legacy,
And I failed miserably, with an awkward smile on my face
Now I stumble into faraway places
And I tear all the tapestries, ending all the dynasties
I drop all the artifacts, and trip on the altars
When I sheepishly slip away,
They yell after the Myth-Breaker

In this modern day age, our myths are man-made
And I don't have anybody to save
If I drown, the gods will frown,
In the absence of their adversary
The sun will set over those waves
And no one will tell my tale
'Cause I couldn't regurgitate Olympus's good name,
With every quest, I made a mess of our sky-bound regime
Now I'm just an ugly body floating down the ocean stream
I suppose that's what happens after the prophecy

It's a great fantasy story, not much of a poem. Yes it has stanzas, yes its probably free verse because there's little rhyming. But it's really more of a story of a hero with powers of gods, but then fails a mission, and by the end, is a "failure." This is a great fantasy story x poem, but it's more story than classical poetry. It's a great metaphor for perhaps perfectionists, aiming for the best of everything, but it lacks poetic writing (assuming its NOT free verse.) Good job, keep writing! 👍

I feel that this could work very well as a segment of 'The Old Man and The Sea', because it is an extremely phenomenal article, yet just in poetic form.

I cant tell if you are talking about the struggle between divine expectation and human limitations, or the suppression of most modern (and many ancient) Hellenists/ Pagans.
Either way, this is awesome and I cant wait to read more of your work ❤️

My interpretation is that he was accidentally chosen by the gods or something along those lines

#

He's inept for the job, and the nature of the modern world makes this even harder

Also, if you want to read more of my work, I'd suggest perusing through #1387253613654577193 (the collection link)

I still have 5 more poems to write for it but I think it's my most solid showing yet

Be my guest lol. All the poems there have a very mythic kind of vibe, either soft introspection or kinda a bit apocalyptic
