January 1st - New Beginnings

FYI : I’m working on a Poem A Day 2026 collection. This is January 1st . Need critiques to help polish it.

We think of new years as a sign for new beginnings,
We sit
And list our New Year’s resolutions,
Forgetting them a week later.

New years,
Or new beginnings?

This is your chance to start afresh,
But carry the knowledge you’ve gathered
And start anew.

Expand "We sit" to include some imagery or combine it with the line beneath it

this reads more like just thoughts rather than a poem. instead of just stating stuff try to show it

I’ve so far changed it to

We sit and dream,
Listing off our New Year’s resolutions,
Yet forgetting them a week later.

Or new beginnings?

This is a chance to start anew

PS don’t know how to finish it

maybe instead of saying “yet forgetting them a week later” you can change it to something more imaginative like “yet they fade like a sunset into the waves” or something like that

For the second stanza, I’ve changed it so far to

We sit, dream,
List off our New Year’s resolutions,
XXXX for a better year.

What’s the word for like putting in the universe

MANIFESTING

Is manifesting the right word ?

that’s manifesting
