Fruit Candy
Residues of saccharine joy
emulation of juices
clutch upon the eternally reflective wrapping
It’s lilac sheen reflecting plastic flowers
A lifeless meadow
That seemed to be just around the corner
awaiting to be discovered
In childish attempts at adventure
A perfect little scene
hiding beneath its covers
The jewels of candy are soon gobbled
a treat to yet unrestrainted curiosity
and only the glowing paper remains
all the colors of spring flowing inside
Amazed, children unfold the paper
and carefully preserve it
hoping that some day
they may find some hidden fun
a mysterious world
hidden behind its glossy window
But when they grow up
the light in their eyes are extinguished
by heavy bonds that they must carry
Unto their very death bed
and the paper that once held the world
a false promise of happiness
became a mere waste
to be buried deep into the trash heap
where the butterflies of childhood
lay dead and crumpled
the lilac rainbows they carry
fading into grey monotony
