Based on Eclipse of the Heart

A Phoenix’s Ashes

Here, within the darkness, I feel broken
It tries to pull me under, surrounds me
Light can’t see me, lost underneath the sea
Sinking deeper, letting the dark soak in

I’m sinking further away from the light
And I’m still breathing, but feels like I’ve died
I’m sinking deeper underneath the tide
As I am slowly consumed by the night

All that I was is ash. Even my name
Maybe these ashes could burst into flame

I let the flames course through my very soul
The ice from my chest starts to melt away
The eclipse is lifted, now it is day
Fiery wings lift me out of this hole

Great poem! I loved the rhymes at the end of the lines in the second stanza, and how the poem started water then turned into fire.
