Hey... it's been a while.
I know we weren't that close, but I loved you the same.
Memories of teaching me as a boy to ride,
Wheels burning like hell, quite a flame.

Distant memories of cowboys on screen,
Your old Chevy roaring with power.
Your blind eye never loses sight; knowledge is always seen,
Wisdom flowing like water off a flower.

"Get back up," repeated like a mantra,
Sometimes too tough, too rough.
But without you, I would be less of a man—
I guess... I'm less...I'm Not the Same...

I don't understand, I know it's only temporary,
His pearly gates a warm welcome—
I can't wait to see you again, to take God's ferry.
But until then, I'll just honor you.

I'll be tough as iron, tough as a nail
But I want to cry sometimes; it's not fair.
All I do is fall; all I do is fail.
I won't lie—I'm scared; I don't have a plan.

You looked rough as a bear,
The sun laying on your Stetson,
Dirt rolling off your chaps, hands like sandpaper,
The dangerous glint in your only eye.

Your hat and coat hung for good, the work is done
Your looks could kill, but not anymore; you're gone,
No soul to fill.

                     Ill see you soon

Grandparents teach you things you always have a place in your heart for. This poem just makes my chest ache tbvh. Each line is encumbered with memories that you hold dear to your heart. You express it so well, it's almost like I can see it happening in front of me. Little details like the old chevy's roar, the rough hands, all once mundane things and places that now hold your heart.
Your feelings towards him are raw. He was rough with you sometimes, but you know that's how he showed his love. You respect him, yet sometimes you feel like you will never be like him. I would like to add, I don't think he wanted you to be like him. I'm sure he wanted you to be even better, and happier. That's what all grandparents want♡´・ᴗ・`♡

Also btw the picture just gives me the feels 🔥🔥 it adds to the poem tenfold. Good job!:D

This poem really touches me emotionally. I can see it being confessional since it is like expressing your emotions to a loved one. But in that way, your poem is what makes its personal perspective very genuine and open from the heart. I can tell that the person you were writing to meant a lot to you

the imagery & emotion in this is vivid

every milestone and lesson becomes a calling card to the people who loved us enough to teach us how to be better than we were, especially once they go... he sounds larger than life, and I'm sorry he's gone. wish tough love wasn't quite so tough sometimes.

I'm just glad you'll see him again. it's not goodbye forever... and hopefully that's a comfort on the harder days

This made me cry..SobbinTheLanaDelReyOut waaaaaaahhhh

I miss the days we'd walk together, Grandpa,
To that little ice-cream stall down the street.
You used to give me lovely treats—
So simple, yet so sweet.

I still have the bat you made me with your wrinkled hands,
And I remember the taste of oranges from those fertile lands.
You’d pick the biggest one for me and say,
"Have this, dear, before someone takes it away."
But why didn’t you tell me back then
That one day, I too would sway away?

I remember the time you raised your voice,
Not in anger, but with gentle might,
Telling Mom not to yell at your little dove,
Then comforting me, saying, "It’s alright."

I went to get that ice cream again yesterday—
It doesn’t taste the same. Oh right!
I forgot to tell you—the orange field,
It has gone barren since that night.
The night when you left this world,
Leaving me all alone in blight.

❤️❤️❤️ can feel his strong character through the poem. He must have been a good guide in this rough world. But everything he taught you will be in your head & you'll be okay in the end. Don't forget to lean on Jesus. Jesus will always be with you through anything and everything. He's the rock and firm foundation. Revelation 21:4. John 11: 25-26. Luke 23:43. Isaiah 40:7-8. Matthew 5:4. ❤️❤️❤️
