Deal With the Demon

Just last night, I summoned the demon

to talk about my pain

we drank and laughed

about the past

about why I’m not sane

he spoke to me

about the birds and bees

mountains and trees

and death

there’s a hanging tree

that was made for me

ages ago, I signed the lease

the paperwork

drafted in curse

officiated by the beast

was in his hands

with no demands,

he knew he had me beat

calmly he stated

I am to be hated

fate finalized with blood

Simply cursed

to find a hearse

care all along the way

when he left

there was no finality

just a simple line

to put me in my place

he said

“soon, your debt will be due”

I dig this one! Really memorable lines and I like the presentation a lot; the euphony keeps me on my toes which I like and I dig the lineation. I would post the more espresso depresso stuff to post sensitive though usually, but this walks the line imo

It's clearly expressed, easy to follow, and joltingly sad.

This was a solid read. The casual conversation with the demon gave it a unique tone—dark but not overly dramatic. I especially liked the way the hanging tree was framed as something inevitable rather than impulsive. The ending lands well, though maybe a slight buildup before the final line could make it hit even harder.

I think you might be right. I think I should have taken more time on the build up as well. In the future I'll definitely have to take more time when writing, I just get in a creative rush sometimes. Thanks for the pointer and I'm happy you enjoyed!
