The night had grown dark but our hearts had grown hard
And I recall standing there looking at the streetlight
Up above me, how it gave us a starless sky
Smoky and pallid, yet still when I studied it
I saw it made a pink streak through the sky
And I never knew how or why
I clung to it, beauty and hope in a desperate moment
And your car came and took us to oblivion
I held her hand and whispered love and it didn’t stop it
Two days later was the end of it
And now I’m lost and broken and in spite
I still remember that streetlight
It was breathtaking in pollution
Can I find hope in absolution?
I don’t know but I can try
Even if I’ll never know how or why

I like the contrast you made between darkness and light like a little bit of clarity before loss. You gave plenty of coin sided words like “I held her hand and whispered love and it didn’t stop” gave me a mix of love and powerlessness. In the question “can I find hope in absolution?” it shows that the writer has hope in the end even while broken. Overall a good read reminding me of the small beautiful moments before something tragic.
