Once I went to beach, I walked through waves with the hot summer sun above my face and in the sand, I wrote our initials
But, just a moment later, the water washed away my carving, leaving just a shallow marking, in the sand near the seashells buried there

And once I went to a forest, I walked through the woods looking for the tallest tree and there, I wrote our initials
But, just a month later, the wood had healed itself and its trunk was freshly pealed, leaving just a trace of a lighter colored bark on its side

And once went to a cliff, I walked to the very top staring at its steepest edge, finding the roughest rock and there, I wrote our initials.
But, just a century later, the rock had been washed out by wind and rain, smaller than it’s ever been, leaving just a little crack of where once were

Our initials

So no, we will not last forever. Because what ever does?
From the littlest pile of ashes, to the greatest mountains there are, it all goes away one day

But what matters in that it was there.
The sand will have held once an act of love, on its grains blown away
The tree will forever carry the markings made, on the inside of its rings
The rock will always have on its smallest pieces, the engravings once there made

The fact that there was for a moment, love
In the places I wrote our initials
