It manages to paint an exquisite nostalgia - by the way, reading it reminded me of the track "When the Summer Ends" by the band American Football, since the eponymous album follows the same theme of interpreting youth.
What I realized is that the first stanzas are more focused on interpreting time as the muse, until the last two lead us to realize that there is a romantic tone probably directed at someone of equal value to the narrator.
It's a beautiful painting that you've been able to present to us, really quite strong, powerful and shocking - all the attributes being described here with admiration, not loathing. It's the search for the past as much as for love.
