Hey you! I've been trying to write poems, which I do that's not the problem, the problem is I want to use big words, or words that will make the poem feel....more poetic. Basically I need help with enriching my vocabulary. Any tips?

Heyyyy!

So what I would recommend from personal experience here is :

Start reading other's poems that contain those type of words :
This can help you understand both the meaning and context they're used,
So when you do find the opportunity to use said word - it'll be handy.

Listen to a lot of musicians that uses rich vocabulary :
Now, I am primarily a hip-hop fan so there's that advantage I have,
But I'm sure you'll find other artists from a wide variety of genres who has a large library, too!
You just need to keep digging in the crates for them.

Look for word synonyms ( a.k.a Thesaurus ) :
I don't use this, but I know people who do and is does help their poems.
It helps you find alternative words for common terms.
Like = enamoured
Dislike = despised ( and so on... )

Metaphoric language :
This really helps making a poem feel more... poetic in a sense.
I do this a lot in my poems and it does make it look prettier!

So these are my general tips and suggestions.
You're free to try out any of them here, but if you do find your own method?
That'll be great to hear! Hope this helps, keep on writing!

I don’t think it has to be poetry, you can get new vocab from reading anything.

I feel poetry really becomes poetry when you talk about something that isn't exactly what you're writing. That is, using metaphors or paradoxes, irony, satire, sarcasm, tc to convey what you want to say but aren't saying.
When you write something like that, it'll enrich your poem in minutes!

big words is not necessary.

#

what necessary is to conduct emotions and information correctly and clearly to your readers through concise words

best thing in the world it breaks the flow a little but just search "synonym for X". Sometimes i write a poem then go back over it using this thesaurus technique
