A Precious Ruby
by Azareth

"Alas, I found the ruby!" Relief surged through me, a radiant beacon of my sanity.
Countless lives have been lost,
Minds shattered by its allure,
Devoured by insatiable greed.
Their lust, I would cleave it away.

My precious Ruby,
You are too pure for this world’s taint.
Too exquisite to be mine,
Eluding my desperate grasp.
Return to me, oh my Ruby.

Greed, oh relentless greed,
Gold's hollow glitter,
Jewels draped on hollow-hearted nobles,
Their corruption festering within.
How dare they steal you from me.

Suffocated by wealth,
Their eyes deserve to be torn out! I roared,
Cursing these wretched thieves.
Heard I was, and paid with my life.
Yet my hatred endures beyond death.

My hatred,
The torment,
The agony I harbored.
A Ruby heard my plea,
The Ruby I claimed as mine.

My soul departed,
My body entombed,
But my hatred,
Remains.
I too was lead by this ruby's lies.

Now this Ruby lies,
Beside these nobles’ deceitful eyes.
A treasure to their empty minds,
Consumed by their endless greed.
This ruby I once held shall be their doom.

So seek me out.
Find my Ruby.
Discover it and destroy it.
End my torment,
End the suffering of many.

A painful last breath...

A/N: ||The ruby is simply just a ruby that was taken away.
I noticed how men usually call their precious things by "her". So not only will this have double meaning, but also two different perspectives. (My aim) So this might seem a little bit wonky and a mess. This is my first time making double meaning poems.||

I see, I think you were very successful in accomplishing what you aimed.

This poem works really well both literally and metaphorically.

The new stanza you added has given the poem more clarity, effectively shedding light to the story of pain behind it.

More emotion, i feel like it lacks some emotion. like its just written and not expressed well enough

#

I decided to edit it a little bit in my notes

#

I might change this one to the improvised version

And then this line here
"Come back oh my ruby" suggests that he became somewhat greedy himself.

So you could add more lines to portray how he gradually changed under the influence of the beautiful ruby, started to fall in love with it and became greedy.

Thank you too, I also enjoyed reading your poem.

Additionally if you like, you could also write about the narrator finally understanding why nobles are so greedy for wealth and jewels after the narrator himself becomes greedy.

This poem dives into the destructive nature of obsession and greed, using the symbol of a precious ruby. you celebrate finding the ruby but soon realize its corrupting influence. you become consumed by hatred for those who covet the ruby, even after death. The poem urges for the ruby's destruction to end the cycle of suffering it causes. It's a raw exploration of human nature and the consequences of unchecked desire. just woww! well written! (ty ur very cool too)

I was really thinking of all the possibilities that the ruby could have represented

#

I was like "hmmm, maybe it IS just about an actual, literal ruby"

#

and lo and behold!

#

But I love it

#

It's very class warfare-y too

#

there's a lot of mentioning of nobility, and the wealthy, and how they already have so much

#

but they just wouldn't be satisfied until they had your ruby

#

Yes yes

#

but I think it's interesting that the narrator doesn't seem interested in the ruby for it's material wealth

fathom flax
#

In fact, at one point she says "too exquisite even for me"

fathom flax
#

It almost seems like she's more angry about the fact that it was taken from her, more so than the fact that she was robbed of wealth?

#

like it's the audacity of the theft that angers her?

#

more so than the actual theft itself?

#

is that a possibility?

#

and then there are lines like "how dare they steal you from me"

#

almost like it's more of an insult that they would take her "precious" away

#

"I claimed as mine"

#

"discover it and destroy it"

#

so a lot of this language seems to imply that she cares not for the material wealth of this ruby

#

(whether it be a literal or metaphorical ruby)

#

but it almost reads like a revenge story

#

or a promise of revenge

#

like, furious

#

if you catch my drift

#

you know, I know a ruby could just be a ruby, but I can really see it representing a lot of things, which is the neat part about this poem

#

and one of my favorite parts is the whole "discover it and destroy it" line

#

the ruby seems almost magical

#

like some sort of holy relic

#

or some sort of dark artifact

#

like not just any ruby, but a cursed ruby

#

in a way it kinda reminds me of the ring from lord of the rings, y'know?

#

the fact that the ruby is even keeping her alive after death?

#

(or is it her sheer anger that fuels her ghostly wrath?)

#

either way I try to interpret it, it's a really cool story
