i love the correlation between swimming in an ocean of tears, growing fins, and the fishtail braids. it's so creative and such a great play with words to convey a certain feeling I cannot fully explain.

the way you describe emotions as threads in a braid captures how love, pain, and betrayal are all intertwined. it feels so personal-
the imagery of having your water and air taken away really hit hard, showing how suffocating and lost you felt. swimming in tears and seeing scales on your skin is such a vivid way to show how deeply the pain affected you, transforming you completely. the poem entirely is raw, honest, and very moving.

this honestly might be the first by you i haven’t been able to understand
though that’s probably because i have no experience with the inspired topicAwkwardHeh
BUT !
i will say this: even without analysis of meaning, i do still quite like this one. it’s emotional, and kind of takes the reader on a sort of story. the metaphors used are super unique yet they intertwine wonderfully and paint a clear picture
even if i can’t quite personally make sense of this picture, it’s like an abstract painting
even without understanding what’s being drawn, it can still be appreciated

i suppose honestly the parallel being drawn
the closest thing i can get to an interpretation is honestly:
reminiscing on the time spent with someone, perhaps in a more literal sense here with braiding each other’s hair
but it came to some sort of downfall or collapse, and the last two lines seem to imply braiding one’s own hair as if to embrace the nostalgia?
but that feels like a bit of a stretch and this is coming purely from the poem itself and not any personal resonance
but i also can’t brain it enough to make some sort of queer connection as much as im trying toAwkwardHeh
i do really like the poem but i feel like im really only grasping this one on surface level understanding, if at all

i feel like im taking it too literally but my brain is falling short of anything else

I understand, that's accurate enough at some point.
I believe the queer reference would be braiding each other's hair, the dynamics of the relationship changes and the poet feels deprived of necessities (water, air) while they are together. So the only hydration the speaker has is their own tears, it's soo much from the pain that it becomes an ocean. Surrounded by it, the poet begins to swim to cross it all but the salted water (tears) makes them grow scales and fins like that of a sea creature. An important aspect of a fish's anatomy would be their tail consider how it helps them with movement. The realization hits the poet that the last time they braided their beloved's hair, it was in a gorgeous fishtail style, coming to the conclusion they have gave it away their fishtail, the important aspect they were to grow right now implying the transformation throughout it all is a process and the inflicted pain of past does a lot more than one can imagine. In queer relationships, especially wlw there's a lot of deeper level of emotional bonding and attachment, they have higher expectations from each other too, the intensity of ache experienced is physically and mentally exhausting. That's also why it's called to be a Canon moment in reels nowadays, Breaking up with your first girlfriend, it hits different way too different and hurts you the most but also changes you the most too.

i think i see where you’re coming from
even if i haven’t been there beforeAwkwardHeh
this honestly gives me a new level of appreciation though, having a better understanding on the thought process behind this one
i absolutely adored the parallels being drawn before, but now that i can follow along on a deeper level, i love it even moreHaihehe
i can say even more confidently than before that this is a wonderfully crafted poem~ both in its style and format, and the topic and the way it’s addressed
