———
I left my sweater in your room,
Shed my life’s costume, consumed.
Our minds were filled with impure thoughts,
no concerns of being caught.
Time has passed since that night,
Ground no longer pure and white.
Raindrops tap my window pane,
Clutching pillow, memories wane.
Loneliness grips nights like these,
Craving arms, longing for ease.
You’re not the one, I understand,
Matters only if there’s a plan.
I’m certain you've moved on by now,
At times I wish I knew how.
Uncharacteristic to cling so tight,
Perhaps you are free tonight.
Light candles in a soft glow,
On the mantle in a row.
Could play your favorite song,
If I remember, it’s been so long.
We could be smiling,
We could be laughing.
Yet here I am, holding grasp,
Seeking courage here to last.
My mind’s as clear as foggy weather,
Should I ask for my Blue Sweater?
