I put you on a pedestal
Because I know what it’s like to live without a god
Even if it’s just anyone so broad
Like being planted in a forest of unfamiliar trees
Crying out just for a small chance of free

I put you on a pedestal
Because I’m just naïve
Doesn’t matter if I have been deceived
Like, being placed in a garden of Eden
Just to be accused of some sort of treason

I put you on a pedestal
Because I just want to be redeemed,
Like, how you lose yourself to screams
When you deal the pain so deep
And shed the tears you weep

I put you on a pedestal
And who knows where all the credit goes
When you asked “what’s up”
It would already be a case closed
Like, secrets that should be left unexposed

I put you on a pedestal
Because I thought you were it for me
I saw you as infinity
Like my Holy Trinity
Unlike what I thought you’d be

I like the references to God and the thematic use of putting someone up so high they become religious in your eyes. Well done!

this is well-written! making a divinity out of someone mortal & the awareness of the consequences that comes from doing so is often such an interesting road to take! keep creating! 🪻
