(I tried this is my first poem in a long time)

Paper stars
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I make paper stars as a symbol.
Of my effort, of my love, of my ability to not give up something that I know is not going to happen
I fold the paper we go on a date I fold it again you get distant again, again, again you say you’re not ready for a relationship. I start thinking for something I can do something I can make you something like…Paper stars I fold it once we start talking again, another time we are discussing plans to hang out again and then one more time! You leave me on read..1hour 2hours 3…10….20 A text! It’s a picture of the ceiling. I say “hello!” You respond with “hi.”
I start thinking...maybe there is a way, a date I can use in my favor! Then I think Valentines day oh that’s got to be perfect, right? I thought to make paper stars because you said you liked them.
I made 1…2...3...10...20 of them and then you say you have crush on someone. I give up I let what everyone to told me win and I never gave you those paper stars.
(Sorry it's so long)

This poem is so tear-jerking! The crafting of paper stars is such an ardous art, it takes effort and concentration, as if displaying your intent to get recognition. Whilst, showing your dedication! The ending,
"I never gave you those paper stars." Invokes such a disappointing, heart wrenching feeling in my heart. The simplicity of the disappointment makes the theme so much more impactful. peachcat
