wow. this is such a matured piece. i dont get to see ones like these a lot o this server

#

"sluggish cells," "mitosis," and "interphase" and all the other very clinical vocabulary adds this sense of disconnection (because scientific vocabulary is generally disrelated to the masses) thus the stagnancy

#

also funny enough, ive only recently scrutinized the whole cell reproduction process so i got the poem a lot easier-ly ahahah

#

i also love there there is a contrast b/w "mitosis" (cell division) n "interphase" (the sorta resting stage between divisions). thus showing this period of transition and potential transformation.

#

part 2 was def the highlight o the poem for me. def one of the best things ive read in a while

#

tbh the "its the future under their tongues" and "some endings are asserted fate" being in the same context as queer hit a little too hard for me as a gay person for no reason ahahaha. not sure if queer here is particularly related to sexual orientation but thats how i go with it

#

the "dead queer trope" reminded me almost exactly of the bury your gays trope in media. nd in that context, the poem challenges the audience's voyeuristic consumption of tragedy and demands a more nuanced understanding of queer narratives and lived experiences.

#

also, "when the kid dies" makes me thing the narrative is that of watching a film so it makes more relevance for the bury your gays trope

#

"circus of agony", though not my most fav use of language here, condemns (somewhat successfully) the audience's complicity in consuming and perpetuating narratives that rely on manufactured suffering for entertainment.

#

the whole possums line BLEWWWW ME UPPPPPP OMGG I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW BAD THE WHOLE 2ND PART IS GOING IN MY POETRY SS FOLDERRRRRRRRR. IT SO FOOKING BEAUTIFULLY SUBVERTS THE WHOLE "POSSUM-AS-ROADKILL" (AND THUS THE "DEAD KID") NARRATIVE WHEN THE POSSUMS "FIND HEAVEN ON HIGHWAY" IT TEARSSSS ME UP WTFF

#

for me the final two lines, i think the narrative is not necessarily queer but i really read it as a subversion of queer guilt

#

by claiming innocence, the speaker challenges this societal diagnosis of queerness as inherently deviant or problematic and asserts their right to exist authentically.

#

also, "innocence" which is so often related to vulnerability and naivety finds here a radical act of self-acceptance and refusal to conform to expectations.

#

it was also generally a humorous and amusing ending for such a serious poem
