i know this server is meant to be for poetry but deep philosophy contains deep poetry, so why not give it a shot ?

Could you explain it more? What do you mean by deep philosophy? Why you can't discuss it in off-topic?

well if it won't violate any rules, I see no problems here. But others can see it different.

I see it very similar to religion.

So, you can discuss briefly philosophy, without going into controversial stuff. However If you wanna have good philosophy talk, I highly recommend creating a group chat or take it into dms.

As long as specific topics remain disallowed, I would be fine with this.

However, it would require heavy moderation as most people are unlikely to know the difference between philosophy from extreme or hateful views relating to politics, LGBTQs, and religion.

A philosophy channel is likely to degrade significantly into an ugly debate/argument channel. Which might be more suited for other servers, or be conducted in a voice chat, where both persons agree on the topic where people might be more considerate of the person they are speaking to.

A philosophy channel would become an invitation for trolls or people trying to stir up the pot unnecessarily.

Anyways. If you're interested in philosophy, I'm sure you can read up on a variety of philosphers and introduce such topics in offtopic without being too edgy or offensive. A Philosophy server on its own may also be something worth searching.

May I recommend a Discord server called The Philosophy Chat? If you're able to read and appreciate Thus Spoke Zarathustra, you'd probably be welcomed there with open arms (assuming you don't have hateful views).

Yeah, If it gets out of hand or becomes too much work for moderators, you always have the option to remove the channel or revise the rules.

18+ channel for poetry (edit: or philosophy) reasons with limitations has its benefits, for example this isnt a dating app, and people should not be allowed to start drama nor be lewd. It might be something worth deliberating with @thin ledge . I feel he has thought about that more than I have.

Thats brilliant. I feel like young ones have equal passion in that field and that could be unfair as well. Although we can start off slow and see how easy it is to moderate or not. And depending on that, the channel will be decided on to keeping it or not.

I mean, how does Google prevent eight-year-olds from making an account? One just sort of has to assume they won't cheat the system.

If they do, there's not much to be done about it — and in the end, there are far worse things for children to lie about their age on.
