i wish snow didn’t melt,
that all is enveloped in white,
covered like a boundless blanket,
embracing everything inside.
i wish snow didn’t melt,
that winter won’t fade to spring,
that snowflakes would continue to fall,
gently kissing people’s skin.
i wish snow didn’t melt,
that we could still play around like kids,
snowball fights, making snow angels,
what growing up forbids.
but snow does melt.
and so do the memories it holds,
the stories sealed in each grain,
melting into puddles below.
innocence no longer frozen,
now maturing with time,
speeding through spring, summer, fall,
unknowingly age climbs.
though snow will come again,
drifting down on people’s heads,
but past memories will never be identical,
only to reminisce, unable to duplicate.
