I am like an apple,
Who envies cherries,
For they are born and raised in pairs.
They blossom, mature, and wither,
Always in the company of another.

I am like the duck,
Who lives in the same pond as the swans.
Always together, not one day apart,
Oh sweetly in harmony, they raise their young,
While I, the duck, have no one to mind.

I am like the gari,
Who’s always served alone,
Eaten separately to clean the palate.
Whereas the nigiri come in twos (ugh),
Into the stomach, embracing each other.

I am like the straw hat,
Who always watches over sunglasses,
Enduring the wrath of the sun hand in hand,
While my back goes up in flames.
How can I bear this unfair pain?

I am like myself,
Who is completely unable
To understand what it means.
Like water, it trickles through my fingers,
I drown in yearning with a pinch of despair.

I wrote this as it flooded into my mind so it might not be great lol catstare

I actually think poems written on a whim are the best. You expressed everything awesomely on this one

love This. It seems very well written but some of the references are just uncommon enough that they took a moment for me to grasp. (I am allergic to fish and so am less acquainted with the 🍣 terms) but very very well done

Yo, Ake I loved the similes. From fruit to fowl to sushi to hat to you. Interesting choices and I really like them. Also like the recurring pair motif
