I think such a whimsical topic works well with the simple rhyme scheme because it sounds like the narrator is singing the poem single mindedly to themselves

I imagine a sleep deprived student sitting in the library, studying for a test, really wishing they were anywhere but there

Hmm. It was a prompt from a fellow poet where you have to describe you are the someone with your crush at home doing homework.

But, yeah, you pretty much caught on the idea. I did make it seem like the persona wants to keep staring at her and not do what needs to be done.
