Awww thank you!
is this from the viewpoint of daedalus?
No clue who that is! But I assume it was someone close to Icarus in the story!
daedalus: icarus' father; he created his wings and told him not to fly too high; he saw his son fall into the aegean and drown
Oh my!
Rough :c
That sounds like it would be a wonderful speaker for the poem!
Oddly enough, the imagery I developed in my head was due to two lines and is no way your intention lol
Oh?
do tell
my greek mythology obsessed self is screaming at this
Did you make it through?
Did you make it home okay?
And the imagery of a modern day Icurus, I mean, I'm not a negative person, but I thought of drunk driving
Woah, that's a pretty interesting interpretation! But it totally works and I can see where you're coming from!
Ahhhhhh I'm flattered! ^*^
did you see the daedalus thing too?
omg where
ooh it definitely is
Confirmed
also with the greeks' obsession with turning people into stars the comparison works really well
but i think it's a metaphor for all parents who are scared for their children, especially ones with troubled children
That's a very interesting interpretation too!
I honestly just see it as a mourning poem
also the second verse really reminded me of a parent looking back at the last conversation with their child before they commit suicide, idk why
Apologies I’m here now! I love the irregular rhythmic scheme! I also love how you use Icarus as a way to reference the loss of the speakers partner. The imagery is lovely and lively!
before their child commits suicide not them
As a writer, I despise leaving poems open-ended and up for interpretation, but I think this one is different! I love it!
that said, do you have an intended meaning?
I do!
Ooo please share!
My interpretation of this poem is me looking back on my old self, who had insanely high expectations, and because of them I ended up hurting myself pretty badly!
never would've thought to interpret it as that
That's why I think this poem works so well as an open interpretation poem!
I’m sorry about that, but that’s a lovely way to think of the poem!
Hearing that, I almost see it in the opposite way. Of a younger version of the speaker looking to the future and wondering what they have done with themself
that actually still works in the context of the daedalus comparison: The father (greater/truer self) seeing his child (the socially constructed self) crash and burn as they fly too close to the sun
That's fascinating! I'm loving all these different perspectives!
Alrighty, who's next?
I am like a rat desperately sniffing for mythonology comparisons im sorry
I can share mine
^this one is kinda retreading on some ideas I've already written about but I wanted to take it from another perspective
Your flow is definitely a strong suit.
and the imagery is stellar!
This is my favorite one! But all of them are really good!
Thank you! Usually that's thanks to meter, but I was less strong on my meter here.
Yeah, this one surprised me too!
That twinkling sky
Of blackish hue,
that daytime ceiling forged of blue-
Literally euphoric sounding
Awww I'm flattered! ^*^
Also spoiler alert, Icarus did not make it home Ok.
TwT
Poor guy
