goin through a rough patch with someone. they wrote me a poem (not posted here) and this is my response. and yes, there is a reference to Overwatch lol.

g:
people are born to give me grief—
they always swipe and steal my love,
and then i’m forced to watch them leave.
trapped in my cage, i push and shove
to no avail; i’m much too weak.
sorrow and hatred, hand in glove,
chain me down so i can’t be free.
is this the life that i’ve dreamt of?
or do i hope it’s all a dream?

a:
i’m no Mercy; i wish i was.
i failed to heal you, my Genji.
i’m not pure rain from skies above,
but a black sin that makes hearts bleed.
my love may burn bright as the sun,
but fly too close, in pain you’ll plead
to douse my flames; with that, good luck.
please, tell me is this all a dream,
or is this life what i’ve dreamt of?

Your poem's gloomy tone successfully captures the sense of being let down by others and entrapped in sorrow. Is this the life I've dreamed of? is asked over and over, which intensifies the feeling of unease and yearning for something better. The expression of the emotions is given more depth by the use of imagery, such as being caged and the expression that sorrow and hatred go "hand in glove.".

The response poem successfully carries on the discussion and responds to the ideas put forth in the original poem. The poem gains a connection to the original poem and deepens the feelings conveyed thanks to the references to Mercy and Genji from the video game Overwatch. By employing opposing metaphors, such as "not pure rain from skies above, but a black sin that makes hearts bleed," the author deepens the inner conflict and struggle of the couple's relationship.

Both poems do a good job of conveying the feelings of being unfulfilled, doubting one's dreams, and dealing with relationship difficulties. The use of imaginative imagery and literary allusions gives the poems depth and individuality.
