An improved placement for items, similar to Rust. Hold SHIFT while placing a small crate, for example, and it will snap to the wall and/or any other placed items. It could make placing crates and other things 10x quicker and more efficient. As someone who NEEDS everything placed as perfect as possible, this would very much satisfy me and plenty others.

+1, brilliant suggestion. Add angle snapping, and it would make building fences next to the house walls much easier and cleaner.
Snapping would definitely have to be based on a local (structure + a few feet) grid, cause there's no way every building is snapped nicely on a grid.
I don't even wanna comment on how long I take placing things lmfao
I'm not a developer, nor do I know the fine details of these sorts of things so bare with me. This could be a change that requires a full rework of the building system, possibly giving each building their own, new grids for the snapping to be done properly, whilst being quite polished too. Again I have little idea what I'm talking about, I'm just using my imagination. This could be a super intricate and rather difficult thing to achieve and I would have zero idea lmao
It might require that, but only if every building is currently baked-in mesh, which doesn't seem like a very efficient method to me. If I were a game dev of a game like this, every building would be a separated asset. Which might not sound intuitive, but given that's how other assets get placed throughout the world (cars, trees, guardrails, etc) it's not that big of a stretch to do every structure like that and shape the terrain to a building instead of the other way around. All it might take is adding a grid to each individual structure, and there's no way every house or business is 100% unique.
I am one of those people. I spend countless hours in games that have base building trying to get things aligned. Some kind of snapping or even just "nudging" would be great instead of trying to surgically freehand placement of everything.
I just added an offshoot request that’s somewhat related to this: https://discord.com/channels/944307356693577799/1473795598397476905
Separate from the issue I just linked - I play in FPV only mode and sometimes I notice that my FOV isn’t large enough for me to see the entire item I’m placing (e.g. large gates). Does anyone else have that problem?
Sometimes. But you can increase your field of view and even your third person distance. Usually I just scroll out with the mouse until the item is in the frame.
I made my world with fpv-only enabled
