Same here, just use the space bar or drive forward to come to a slower stop.

I know no way to gracefully slow a vehicle in this game. I just tap a spacebar many times in hopes it will not go out of control. Pressing S key usually makes car to spin.

If im going fast I just press S and space together to stop really quick.
Make sure your tires are filled with air or this can effect handling.

Tires are another ... thing. All tires in the game are modern tubeless tires. Yet somehow you can pump them to 2.4 bar while not mounted on the wheel.
